Howdy y’all!

After a week of struggling to find time to blog and a weekend of sleeping for 24 of the 48 hours allotted to us, I’ve decided that it is better to follow our old edict to put off until tomorrow what was better done yesterday. Only, in this case, we’re putting it off until next week and pretending that the past two weeks hadn’t happened.

Look for a resumption of regular posting including your Festivus cards and instructions on how to have a proper Festivus to return Saturday 18 December or sooner. You never know. Ye Olde Blogge is erratic that way.

It's been five long years of blogging the Trump years. We've laughed, we've cried, we've pulled some of our remaining hair out, but we've made it. It is almost done and our democracy, nation, and souls are still largely intact. Unfortunately, we're not through.There is much more to come as we stitch ourselves back together like some kind of common Frankenstein monster as we recover from the PTSD that Trump gave us and the needless deaths and suffering from #COVID19. We also have to keep #BidenHarris honest & progressive, oppose Republican obstructionism anti-democratic tendencies, and whatever other black swans await us. All of which will be addressed using good old-fashioned snarcky, sarcasticky, profaney fun and psychological insights.

              • I’ve read somewhere that vacations need to be a full four weeks – a week to get out of work mode, two weeks of vacationing, and a week to get ready to go back to work. I’ve always been really bad at vacations, often going years without taking one.

                  Before I became a teacher, I never took vacation… or almost never. Luckily, being a teacher involves forced extended time off. I never added up the hours though. I don’t know if the winter and summer breaks actually do make up for the extended hours of work that teachers do during the term. I guess I’m afraid to.

                  I’m finally starting to feel recovered from the degradation that the stress of the school year had delivered. Now, I’ll start doing a little school work each day in addition to running, reading, and writing, as well as all the family stuff. If I don’t get some school work done, the next semester will be much much worse. How’s that for vacation?

                  • Maybe that is part of the reason people think of a vacation as going away somewhere, which until the arrival of email and cell phones and such meant being out of touch with work, whee even doing a little work was impossible. Now days, a lot of people can’t escape on weekends.

                      The temptation to check your email is just damning in part because of its ease and from every device you have, especially your phone.

                      When we had beepers in the ’90’s, I hated the instant accessibility that they demanded from you. I liked the compromise that answering machines provided. They seemed much more genteel. Now, we’re at the beck and call of the phone all the time scared to death of ever turning it off in case we miss something important.

                    • Beepers were far worse than cell phones in many ways. They were disruptive and then you had to search for a pay phone. Very annoying.

                      “Smart” phones aren’t so much as smart as passive aggressive.
