The Charlie Kirk murder just keeps getting more Kirk-esque. I’d love to hear from you about a couple of aspects of the world’s reaction to the assassination.
First, I’m appalled at the number of people who have lost their jobs because of social media posts using Charlie Kirk’s own words. It’s all over the world, too, meaning people from other countries. Kirk was a celebrity. You can say a lot about celebrities before you cross the line into slander and libel. Whether that’s right or wrong, when you’re a public figure, people are entitled to their opinions about you whether they are nice or not or based on any proof.
It doesn’t make sense that people are being harmed for expressing “the truth” as they see it about Charlie Kirk, especially when they are just posting quotes from him. Perhaps the worst one was the Washington Post’s firing of its columnist Karen Attiah for criticizing white men.
We have lost our goddamn minds. It’s almost as if there is a pressure campaign on by the White House to induce these institutions to toe the line on Kirk or else, increased tariffs for foreign countries, denial of federal monies for institutions, federal investigations, and civil law suits.
What do you think about this ungodly and unprecedented reaction to murder of a public figure? Let us know in the comments.
The other aspect of Kirk’s death is the degree to which conservatives feel they can blame liberals for it. Apparently, Jamoke Dumbass Vance hosted Charlie Kirk’s podcast, and he suggested that everyday people turn fellow citizens in to their employers for criticizing Kirk like they were a Texan reporting the aiding and abetting of an abortion. The only thing that is missing is a bounty for the act.

The reaction reminds me of all the white racist mass shooters that go out and kill a bunch of Black and Brown people hoping to start a race war. It’s like the conservatives learned from the complete failure to achieve that goal by attacking their actual targets, so they hope that if they blame this conservative in conservative violence on liberals that more conservatives will attack liberals and one of us will actually fight back.
Like everything else conservatives are doing, it is fake. This is fake liberal violence. They hope that if they lie about it enough and act like its true that enough MAGA-folk will attack that liberals will be forced to play the other side.
What do you think? I’d love to hear from you in the comments.

I’m sorry it took me so long to get to this one, but it did give me some time to think while busy with other stuff.
Clearly, the entire Trumpist machine is going to milk this one as much as they can for as long as they can, in every way they can. Charley Kirk may be more valuable to them dead than alive.
I rather enjoyed a bit the way Pam Bondi got backlash from the entire MAGA world for saying she would prosecute all hate speech, implying that only Libs do that. Apparently, even the rank and file MAGAs know hate speech when they utter it, and when their leaders do it too.
With all the firings and doxing and such, I think they could have found few better ways to radicalize their opponents and stimulate a desire for revenge. But then, they do say they want civil war, so maybe they are OK with that.

That one caused me a chuckle, too. Not only does MAGA know hate speech when they hear it, they LIKE it, and they don’t want that right taken away from them. They really are hoping that liberals fight back. I’m hoping we’re too smart for that. Eventually, the silent majority will have been pushed too far, though, and the protests will be too massive to ignore, the resistance too large to lock up, and the votes too many to rig.

“Charley Kirk may be more valuable to them dead than alive.”
Those are my thoughts exactly.
I never liked Charlie Kirk, but I don’t celebrate his death. That said, I understand why many people who disliked him are reacting the way they are now. There is plenty of material for them to work with, and Kirk made damning quotes to show that he was a bigot.
As far as the right goes: The reaction from Trumpers and that whole assortment of right-wingers goes to show that Kirk was ultimately expendable. A lot of wealthy people helped to fund Talking Points USA and Kirk’s rise on the internet and the college/university talking circuit. He ultimately helped the establishment with his rhetoric and by recruiting young college students.
But now, the right, including Trump and Vance themselves, are using Kirk’s death to justify what they’ve wanted to do and have been doing for years. The firings for political disagreements aren’t new. Neither are the threats of violence. The right has been far more violent throughout history, and even the FBI once acknowledged this.

I’m so happy to hear from you! How have you been? And, what have you been doing?
Hitler’s Propaganda Playbook says to never let an opportunity to keep the masses stirred up go unused. Kirk’s death is an opportunity to them. Hearing Trump quickly pivot from, “I’m doing okay [with Kirk’s death]” to “Hey, look the new WH ballroom!” was as surprising as getting wet a marine mammal show. Trump and the others never really cared about him because they are personality disorders and lack basic empathy.
He was a useful tool when alive. Now, he’s a useful tool in death. Every silver lining has a dark center. The dark center of the martyr is that someone has to die, but as Kirk so helpfully pointed out, 40,000 Americans have to die every year for the Second Amendment. It just has to be that way. I’m sure he understands the necessity of his own death and appreciates it being because of gun violence. In a way sick twisted way, it is win-win, martyrdom and sacrifice to the alter of the Second Amendment.
They are horrified by Kirk’s death because they’re afraid they’re next, especially since it was at the hands of a young MAGA adherent who either thought Kirk wasn’t hateful enough or found his conscious and thought he was too hateful. Either way, if it spreads among the faithful, none of them are safe.
Glad to see you commenting, Shmaltz!

Hi Jack!
I’m doing fine enough, thank you. I hope you’re doing well.
Ugh, 2025 has been such a rough year nationally and all around. The news is honestly depressing. But I am trying to get my blog restarted. I have one topic that a reader suggested I cover, so I need to do tons of research for it stay tuned …
When I heard that Charlie Kirk had been shot, I didn’t think much about it. It was shocking news and seemed unreal, but after seeing the video (an ill-advised decision), I knew it was a deadly shooting. I can imagine that many people there were left traumatized.
Unfortunately, the right was quick to blame anyone but someone among their own ranks for this shooting. I’m still unsure about whether to trust the official narrative, but it makes sense that someone on the right would have targeted Kirk. And it might be one example of history repeating itself.
Please watch “A Nazi who gave speeches on campuses was assassinated (in 1967)” on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bddwiUoNncg.
This is the type of political climate we Americans must endure. The far-right has no principles and is full of people who are experts at distraction. The left should learn to look at certain things through the lens of power and see distractions for what they are. Kirk’s death was used to distract from several things, one being the reporting about the abysmal numbers tied to Trump’s absurd tariffs.

As Malcolm X said, the only thing you can fight power with is power. We spend too much of our time trying to figure out the whyfors and howcomes of it all and not to deliver our own message. Trump and his merry band of useful idiots recognize an issue that they can use to keep the masses stirred up. That’s all they needed out of Kirk’s murder.
The only saving grace of it all is that the left doesn’t seem to want to engage in a tit-for-tat exchange of acts of violent retaliation. It takes two to tango, as long as we’re not tangoing, they can just bob their heads on the dance floor.
I don’t think I’ve ever been as distressed and depressed as I have been this year. This year has been a total disaster, and we won’t even know how much of a disaster for a couple more years. Nothing good comes of this.

I was by no means a supporter of Kirk. What he said and put online I fundamentally disagree with, but that doesn’t mean he deserved what he got. Whether we like what Kirk and others say, it is a granted right from the US Constitution. The fallout from this is still far from over and I am preparing to buckle up.

Nor was I a supporter of Kirk’s. And, I don’t support all the mythical people celebrating his death, mythically. I do appreciate the irony of someone so devoted to the current interpretation of the Second Amendment that they were willing to lie, shame, and berate to defend it being gunned down, though.
I said in a previous post or comment this week that I hope the public does not treat his survivors the way Kirk and his followers treated survivors of other shootings, including those who were murdered by police. That last bit is new to this iteration.
I also have said that MAGA needs a martyr, so hello Saint Charlie who, according to our MSM did no wrong but was an honest master debater of topical issues and current events.
And, last I will add, that no one deserves to lose their job over a social media post criticizing Charlie Kirk. It just shouldn’t happen. See my other posts for more on that.

They have found their Idiocracy Horst Wessel. We live in the stupidest fascist timeline, and such heinous actions like [checks notes] “Accurately quoting things the Martyred Saint Kirk has said.” will be punished severely.
Matthew Dowd was fired for saying something ‘mean’ about him before Dowd even knew he was dead.
An employee of the University of Kentucky (some poor schmuck who worked in their lock shop) was fired for paraphrasing Darrow’s quote “I have never wished a man dead, but I have read many obituaries with approval” on his personal social media without any reference to his employer.
The VICE PRESIDENT OF these beknighted United States used hiis office to advocate vengeance against the people who are insufficiently hagiographic in their praise of the Martyred Saint Kirk.
The deeply stupid Rep. Clay Higgins (MAGA) Louisiana is going all Old Testament on anyone who dares to be insufficiently worshipful of The Martyred Saint Kirk.
Why it’s almost as if they all think that employees are the property of their employer…

They do want to control our every move and action. It is frightening to look upon the enthusiasm with which they are applying themselves to this new opportunity to hurt regular people. Absolutely astonishing. They really are hoping to implement a version of thought police that will drag people kicking and screaming into the night never to be heard from again.

Well, it totally ruined my day today between 1PM and 2PM by pre-empting GH to announce that charges have been filed, and taking up the entire freakin’ hour pontificating about it all including the death penalty.
And now I have broken my promise to ignore any- and everything that has the words Charlie, Kirk, or any combination of the two; also political violence when those words come from a Republican/rightwinger, etm. I guess I should spend a bit of time considering whether I need to take down the little blue and white sign I keep in a front window that says “War Is Not The Answer,” since my government has announced that they’re coming after liberals. sigh

You are the gauge by which I measure how much shit has hit the fan with. When we’re at Def Con 4 helicoptering shit storm, I can find some comfort in your words. I think you should leave your little blue sign in your window and hope it is not the lingering shot at the end of the scene to reinforce the irony of our beliefs.
One of the rules in Hitler’s Propaganda Playbook was not to exploit every opportunity to keep the population agitated and off balance. We certainly are out of balance in this argument over morals of Saint Charlie. Trump et al. really needed this and they are milking it for everything it is worth. I cannot believe the proportions it has grown to. I’ve forgotten bread dough that hasn’t expanded to this extent. Everyday people are losing their jobs because they quoted Charlie Kirk without comment, Ali. Everyday people. I just can’t believe that. It breaks my heart that so many businesses and institutions are going along with fascism.
Everytime you think it can’t get worse, it does.

That’s exactly correct-people are having their lives ruined for using their free speech not to disparage a person, but simply quoting them. It’s almost oxymoronic, or something, how they can believe those things, even say those things, but don’t want to hear that they’ve said them. I know oxymoronic is not the absolutely correct term.
Yeah, I haven’t taken down the sign, yet. My son says he thinks things are going to take time to filter down to our little town, even the state, except possibly in the metros. Although, the economic hits keep happening, as they are everywhere. But people aren’t looking around trying to bust other people for being nice, in order to get a loaf of bread. If I’m making sense with that; I recall that Anne Frank’s family was outed precisely for that reason. I’m using 1930s Germany as a gauge, myself. It’s definitely started, but we so far maybe can stop it. If people will just hang together!

I like the use of oxymoronic there, even if it isn’t quite right. It is more akin to cognitive dissonance or hypocrisy, I think. Maybe we have to come up with a new term to describe something so contradictory and simultaneously stupid.
Yeah, this is starting to have a real Reichstag Fire feel to it. It is a crackdown looking for an excuse to occur. Luckily, LA, DC, and Chicago didn’t give them enough of an excuse. Luckily, those cities avoided the Portland response — I don’t know why Trump doesn’t send the Guard to Portland; it’s almost assured to be the disaster he’s looking for. Now, we have Memphis. I don’t think he’ll get what he’s flailing for there, either.
The only silver lining in all of this is that they are likely to overreach and cause a backlash against their abundant cruelty as they start really hurting everyday white Americans.

Considering the usual competence with which they’ve fulfilled all of their other tasks, I can hardly wait for the results. I shudder to think what atrocities they will be extolling and exhorting us to lustily commit. I don’t know if you’re familiar with the lyrics of the “Horst Wessel Lied” but it does refer to the streets running with Jewish blood being an improvement over the current state of affairs.

They’ve been looking for an excuse. This is probably as good as they’re going to get since very few liberals will engage in their level of violence.
