Do politicians really think they won’t be caught when they lie?

With the presidential and congressional campaigns in the homestretch, the quadrennial contest for deception, misdirection, fact-bending, half-truths, and downright lies, in other words, the challenge to win the hearts and minds of voters, is in full swing.   1. I worked in local government as a City Planner when I was younger and naive. While I was hired for my expertise to tell the truth, my research was often ignored in favor of political bias and expediency. Lying by omission became common then. For example, church land expansion plans were routinely approved without full consideration of public interest then.
