SUMMARY: Today, we ask the question, why would electing a card carrying 6 January insurrectionist be bad? Should we accept the protectors and enablers of sexual abusers in polite society? Shouldn’t a qualification for being Speaker of the House include having passed one piece of your own legislation? Because of the violence and threats of violence wielded by Jim Jordan and the authoritarian forces of country, we have to call our representatives and encourage them to vote against Jim Jordan as Speaker of the House. This post shows you how.
KEY WORDS: Jim Jordan, Gym Jordan, Patsy Jordan, Speaker of the House, qualifications, sexual abuse allegations, Ohio State University wrestling team and sex abuse scandal, the 6 January insurrection, 2020 election, call your member of Congress, take action, authoritarianism
COMMENT: Please tell us whether you called your representative, what it was like, and your opinion of Jim Jordan in the comments. We’d love to hear from you!
Every time I write a call your member of Congress post in support of some liberal cause, I hear from readers who tell me it won’t do any good since they live in such a red district. Well, now you can do your country a favor and call your Republican member of Congress, which doesn’t mean you can’t call your Democratic member, though, and tell them in no uncertain terms that you don’t want Gym Jordan to be Speaker of the House.
Here’s the layout of the post, and the beauty part is, you can jump to any one of them just like clicking on a link!
- First, we articulate the issues.
- Second, the script for a call is given, which can be adapted to a postcard, email, or social media post.
- Third, tips for the call and contacting your MoC are given.
- And fourth, resources for locating the contact information for your MoC is given.
How Could Anyone Possibly Think Gym Jordan Would Make An Adequate Speaker of the House?
Seriously, is there anyone, including Jordan’s mother and himself, think that he will actually make an adequate Speaker? No one does. He doesn’t have the character, personality, smarts, or grit to do the job. At least McCarthy had the organizational skills to deploy surrogates on his behalf. Jordan either lacks those skills or has no surrogates. Either way, it is disqualifying. Here’s the kicker: his lack of political skill is his BEST qualification to be Speaker.
Let’s stroll through the others:
1 HE’S A LITERAL GROOMER. As if anyone could ever forget the incident that put the gym in Gym Jordan. Jordan is such an upstanding character, as assistant coach of the Ohio State wrestling team, he ignored the sexual abuse of his players. Of course, Jordan denies the allegations. Of course he does. Of course. He doesn’t even have the decency to be ashamed of his lack of moral character and fortitude. He doesn’t worry about how he will be perceived, what his peers and neighbors will think of him… what his mother will think of him. He is the embodiment of the Republican norm of lying when the truth is inconvenient and never letting morality get in the way of promoting their short-term self-interest.
“Jim Jordan called me crying, crying, groveling, on the Fourth of July … begging me to go against my brother, begging me, crying for half an hour. That’s the kind of cover-up that’s going on here.” Adam DiSabato told members of the Ohio House Civil Justice Committee.
DiSabato called Jordan a “liar” on Tuesday and insisted that, “He’s throwing us under the bus, all of us. He’s a coward.”
Ex-OSU wrestler: Rep. Jordan called ‘crying, groveling, begging’ to deny sexual abuse claims in USAToday
Can you imagine being a member of a team and not doing everything you could to protect your players and team mates from real psychological harm? Can you imagine having a masters in education as Jordan does from OSU no less, and understanding the principle of safeguarding students as Jordan apparently doesn’t. I guess he missed that class because he was attended the conservative seminar on myopic self-preservation.
What a fucking piece of work you have to be to elevate yourself over your vulnerable wards and when exposed for it, not slink into some hole and hope everyone forgets. Instead you keep the issue hot by elevating your bloated ego ever higher in the public realm.
They call Democrats groomers. It’s always projection with these yahoos, isn’t it?
2 HE HAS A LONG HISTORY AS A LEGISLATIVE BOMB THROWER. Of course, we mean that figuratively. It would take real balls to throw an actual bomb to further anarchy. Balls that, no one needs to point out, but we will, Jordan doesn’t have. Being ballless and spineless are just two of his more attractive qualities. He also has a legislative record equal to none:
- A founding member of the Freedumb Cockups
- Forced John Boehner out as Speaker of the House
- Caused the government shutdown of ’13. Can we start naming these shutdowns like we name storms, but instead of just random names, the name of the asshole most responsible for them? You know, the Jordan-Cruz Shutdown of ’13.
- Never passed any legislation
- Appeared on Fox News more than any other sitting member of Congress
“Jim Jordan especially, my colleague from Ohio,” he [John Boehner] replied. “I just never saw a guy who spent more time tearing things apart ― never building anything, never putting anything together.”
Former GOP House Speaker John Boehner calls fellow Republican Jim Jordan a ‘political terrorist’ on Business Insider
Apparently, Jordan has never met a deal that he wouldn’t rather destroy than make, which is not exactly what you want in the Speaker of the House, is it?
3 HE IS A CERTIFIED INSURRECTIONIST. While no one knows exactly which Congressional members Jack Smith is allegedly contemplating indicting, we do know that the list of evidence of Gym Jordan being in the vanguard of the authoritarian overthrow of our government and gutting of our democracy is long, long, long. Here’s a sampling of the ways Jordan has damaged our government and way of life:
- He voted against certifying Biden’s win on 6 January.
- Defied a subpoena from the 6 January committee and blew off their deposition.
- Texted Mark Meadows on 5 January 2021 that Pence should declare all the electoral votes that have been identified as suspect as not being electoral votes
- On 2 January 2021, he hosted a conference call with Trump and his Congressional co-conspirators on strategies for delaying the certification of the votes, including encouraging MAGA to march on the Capitol.
- Denies ever having said that the election was stolen, but refuses to state unequivocally that Biden won the presidency.
- Believes that it is impossible for Trump to have lost when (a) Trump won nine million more votes in 2020 than he got in 2016 and (b) the Republicans gained seats in the House. Hunh?
- Signed an amicus brief to support a law suit trying to overturn the 2020 election
- He sought pardons from Trump for Members of Congress. In case, Jordan missed it, he didn’t get a pardon. I guess we can call him Patsy Jordan from now on. Maybe it will be his drag queen name.
“On January 6, 2021, Vice President Mike Pence, as President of the Senate, should call out all electoral votes that he believes are unconstitutional as no electoral votes at all…”
Fact-checking Jim Jordan’s letter to the Jan. 6 committee on CNN
This is no time to sit on the sidelines. This is the time to tell your representative in the House that you have their back and they should not elect Jim Jordan as Speaker. When they’re getting credible death threats from the flying monkey squad — threats that kept Republican Senators from voting to convict Trump in his impeachment, we have to act to support our Representatives in doing the right thing and standing up to authoritarianism.
The Script for Calling Your MoC
When you call your MoC, you should be prepared just in case someone actually answers or their voice mail isn’t “full.” Use a script. You want to be succinct and clear, and you don’t want to miss anything. Here’s a suggestion:
Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [STATE and LOCALITY].
I’m calling today to urge you to vote against Jim Jordan as Speaker of the House. We cannot have a Speaker who openly supported insurrection on 6 January and denies the integrity of our elections. Jim Jordan has proven over and over again that he does not have the character to be Speaker. He has never even passed a piece of legislation! He cannot work across the aisle with Democrats or even with more moderate members of his own party.
We cannot have a person as Speaker who doesn’t have the integrity or moral wherewithal to speak out against on going sexual abuse. Don’t be intimidated by the bullying tactics of Jordan and his allies or the threats from his supporters. Jim Jordan should not and cannot be Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Thank you for your time and attention.

Tips for Calling
When you call your representative’s office, please remember the following:
- Only contact YOUR MoC! They only listen to their constituents and dismiss requests from non-constituents. Ask for the aide working on the policy-related issues.
- Be polite! No matter whose office you’re calling. No matter what their positions are. No matter how inflamed you are about the issue — and you should be very passionate — be polite.
- Remember that the people you are talking to are people! So, be nice.
- Call during business hours of the area code their office is in. Typically, that is 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Have a script or notes to follow so you don’t forget anything.
- Call with friends, you know like a party.

It is a sad thing to admit to, but I’ll do it, the failure of our politicians is our fault. Year after year WE go left, then WE go right, guess what? The result is the same! Surprised? No not really, the left and the right have one thing in common, they are both politicians.
Until WE the electorate, take a real interest in what we Parties offer and on being elected, are forced to live up to their promises, nothing will change and WE’ll have no one to blame but ourselves.

Great minds etc. I’ve been calling our time period The Great Civics Lesson for just that reason. The electorate got complacent and let the fox into the chicken house. We need to elect government officials who support democracy and the principles our governments were founded on, equality before the law and a fair distribution of wealth and resources. It doesn’t matter about party affiliation if the elected person isn’t committed to those principles.
Too often politicians are committed to representing the needs and desires of the people who donate the most money to their campaigns instead of those who voted for them. Too often, we the electorate, don’t punish them for that.

Wow! Now that is a well put together call to action.
“Apparently, Jordan has never met a deal that he wouldn’t rather destroy than make, which is not exactly what you want in the Speaker of the House, is it?”
Sadly, that is exactly what Matt Gaetz and the rest of the “burn it down!” MAGA caucus want to see in a Speaker.

Thank you so much for the kind words, Karolina. I really appreciate it. I have to say, though, I’m surprised that the House GOP stood up to the bullying tactics used by Jordan and MAGA because during Trump’s impeachment, Republicans voted against impeachment and against conviction because of the threats. Republicans haven’t expelled the coup plotters, supporters, and participants, either. They haven’t stood up to their ridiculous demands of investigations into the “weaponization” of government, Hunter Biden, or Biden’s impeachment. I don’t know why they found Jordan the bridge they couldn’t cross. I’m glad they did, but damn if it makes sense given past behavior.

It doesn’t make sense…unless, maybe, some of the swing district Republicans are sensing a change in the voting public? Could it be that Republican voters might be getting tired of MAGA and Trump? I can’t quite believe that, but it would be wonderful if so.

Either that or Jordan really is just an obnoxious creep that no one wants around. Since nothing risky gets done by a Republican unless it affects them personally, I’m leaning towards the latter.
The Republican party, MAGA-affiliated, moderate, whatever, wants our democracy dead and gone and have fully embraced Gingrich’s idea of a permanent majority. They’ve been working on it for over thirty years now. No reason to think it has changed.

The “creep that no one wants around” theory sounds legit.

There is something to the old sayings. Birds of a feather, comes to mind, and you’re known by the company you keep. Perfectly fits the Freedumb Cockups in the House. That one hundred plus people can’t figure out how to stop ten people from screwing up their plans tells you a lot about those folks. They want their “plans” to be screwed up so they have an excuse to go along with whatever shyte the ten come up with.
I’m in a mood this evening and it won’t take much to get my snarky, sarcasticky, profaney streak started. I may as well start the next blog post.

Nothing wrong with being snarky and sarcasticky, especially in the times we live in 🙂

The good news is that so far he has been blocked and even lost more votes in the second round due largely to his and his allies bullying and threats to other members.
On the other hand, one of the members of my Indivisible group reports that she was able to talk to someone in the office of our MOC, Chuck Edwards (NC 11th District) who said they are getting more pro Jordan calls than anti. But, Edwards is a solid Freedumb Caucus member and 100% pro Jordan.

I’m not surprised in the safe MAGA districts, calls are running in favor of Jordan because (a) motivation and (b) Jordan is Freedumb Cockup founder. However, to me, that is all the more reason to call.
For me, my representative — to the degree that I have one any more — is either Joaquin Castro or Lloyd Doggett (I volunteered for his first campaign in ’95). This call really isn’t for them. It really is for those in purple districts who are receiving threats, threats that have proven to sway votes if the impeachment and conviction votes are any evidence.

(a) I’m really glad to hear that. Regardless of whether your representative will change a vote or support for whatever, it lets them know that constituents are watching and engaged and it gives them a gauge of how popular or unpopular they are.
(b) I’m not surprised that you and your Indivisible group is calling. Y’all are an engaged and committed group.
And (c) I don’t think I had anything to do with it, but I’m glad to hear it is happening and appreciative of knowing about it.

The group started almost immediately after Trump took office. In the beginning we had a lot of people showing up, but the numbers went slowly down until rising again for the 2020 election season, and then down again once Biden took office. The core group who come to meetings are almost all retired people, and about half are seasonal residents in Highlands. The mailing list is a lot bigger than the meetings, so it is hard to know what some are or are not doing. We are trying to figure out how to get more younger folks involved, and maybe even some POC (who are very rare in this town).

That sounds about right as far as civic groups and non-work related groups go. I’d love to hear more about… really. I’ve been curious about Indivisible groups since they started. But, I’ve got to go now. I didn’t want to let another five day lag appear.
Do you think the Republican Speaker mess is the prelude of the party splitting into two distinct parties? Is that possible?

I suspect that if the moderates and the moderately moderates can get a bipartisan deal oriented Speaker with Democrat help, they would be able to side-line the Freedumb Caucus and the MAGAs. Jordan and friends very seriously pissed off a lot of them with the strong arm (read as authoritarian, fascist flying monkey attack) tactics. One side or the other may indeed have to form a new party.

I think there is room in the House for such a deal. The Dems would drive a hard bargain, though, like no government shutdown via clean appropriation bills that kind of thing. However, if there were any minority of Republicans who were willing or capable of making such a deal, the Republican vote for impeachment in the House would’ve been much bigger and he would’ve been convicted in the Senate.
The Republicans have had repeated opportunities to bury Trump starting in 2016. They just can’t bring themselves to do it.
We are, however, looking at a very messy divorce happening. Whether or not it results in two parties, remains to be seen. But, a split and fractured party is not out of the question. What we’re seeing is the ultimate result of Trump’s feculent touch.

“Forced John Boehner out as Speaker of the House”
Ooh… now that alleged vote for Boehner makes sense. It was a message that, even though the Republican base is expected to check their memory at the entrance to the party, Gym’s colleagues still retain the use of their memories.
And a significant fraction have issues with what they remember him doing. (in honor if his alias, is “hym” his pronoun?)

I imagine a lot of the representatives and their staffers up on the Hill remember his history there very well. I’m heartened that he’s got even less support than McCarthy had, but I’m discouraged that it isn’t more overwhelming. Why his candidacy wasn’t just laughed out of the door is a mystery. The only other Republican House members less qualified than he is are his fellow Freedumb Cockups members. This just can’t happen.
I’m now dying to find a reason to use hym in reference to ol’ Patsy.

I believe many representatives CAN count, not only the house votes but also the average vote ranges in their gerrymandered districts,. Thus, they are sending messages. One message is “Gym, your vote totals will keep getting worse until you give it up” and then they get together to see who will sacrifice their chances in their next home district election to ensure this evil klown isn’t chosen.
I just hope the sane portion of Republican reps is a majority of that majority. If not, we’re totally hosed.

I think that many Republicans in the House really really, and maybe even, really don’t like Jordan. There is a significant number of representatives from deep red districts voting against him.
Pelosi’s shade was deep because Pelosi always knew the votes before they were cast. Caucus leadership should always know how the vote will go. That’s part of the job. That Republicans are so bad at (a) party unity nowadays, (b) being organized, and (c) quite possibly, being honest with each other about how they’ll vote was all contained in that cut.
This Schadenfreude is especially well seasoned and deserved.
