Trump’s Fake Drug War
I know we’re murdering fisher folk in the Caribbean and Pacific so Trump can jactate over the war on drugs, but it is a fake war. He’s fapping to so much AI slop and murdering folks to sweeten the deal. Just like every other addicting activity people get up to, you got to keep pushing it to the extremes to keep it interesting.
Instead of reducing the intake of cocaine and fentanyl, which isn’t smuggled by sea routes, it’s been increasing under Trump. Of course, we ignore the easiest factor to manage illegal drugs, demand. If we would decriminalize and improve treatment, we would lower demand. It has been done in other countries. There’s no reason not to do it here other than the lack of political will.
The record-breaking cocaine boom — and its deadly fallout
Christian Nationalism is in the Same Places as the Klan
The polling company, PRRI, has produced an atlas of Christian Nationalism. Christian Nationalism is just a sanitized what of saying white supremacy or naked blatant deadly racism. And, suprise suprise suprise it maps to the same areas as the Klan did back in the day. It is strong support for the geography of culture arguments Ye Olde Blogge has been using.
Here are the other socially undesirable traits that it correlates with:
- Frequent Christian religious service attendance. Notice that it isn’t Muslim or Hindu religious services and I”m willing to bet the non-denominational versions of Christianity are excluded, too.
- A majority of Republicans answer survey questions like Christian Nationalists.
- Consumers of far right news media — no surprise there, amirite?
- Support for Trump — no sht. Go figure.
- Republican dominated state legislatures
- Supporters of political violence and authoritarianism — support grew under Biden and diminished with Trump’s reelection.
- Anti-migrant views
- Anti-vaxxers
- Over half of the respondents in Arkansas, West Virginia, Oklahoma, Mississippi, and Wyoming
Of particular concern is the decline in Christian nationalism rejectors. It peaked in 2023 with 32% and was 26% of those surveyed in 2024. I wonder what happened in 2024?

Most of these speak for themselves and all of them are from my Bluesky feed.
The ICE Withdrawal from Minnesota
As many people have said, Believe when you see it. Unfortunately, national news coverage has slowed down quite a bit. I guess the MSM is just believing. Sounds about right.
There is a lot of reporting that ICE is going to greater lengths to dupe people into approaching them by taking advantage of Minnesota niceness and pretending to have car trouble, hiding their plates, going plainclothes, and pretending to be anything other than ICE because distrust destroys democracy.
Reaping the Windfall of the Anti-Vaxxers
It isn’t enough that we have measles breaking out in record numbers around the nation, now we’re seeing mumps. What’s next polio and whooping cough? Are we going to start opening iron lung wards in the few remaining hospitals that we have? Are TB sanatoriums going to make a come back?
How many people is Trump going to kill before he is removed from office?
Was it CERN?
There’s a Whole Lot of Crazy to get Through
We’ve got three long years until 20 January 2029 — Inauguration Day for those who need it. There’s a whole lot of crazy to get through until then.
I’ve seen on my social media feed people openly fretting that Trump can some how enact voter ID through an executive order. He can’t y’all. Executive orders do not have weight of law. They affect the administration mostly, not the states.
One of our biggest dangers is going to be when state and local police forces square off with the FBI or other national forces to prevent another Fulton Country from happening. Speaking of which, why isn’t there more reporting on the judge who signed off on the dubious search warrant? The legal reporting that I’ve seen says that there was no legal basis for the seizure, so why’d a judge sign off on it?

Okay, that’s about enough for this week from our stupidest timeline. I don’t know about you, but I can’t stand no more this week. Until next week’s post, let us know what you think we probably missed in the news but shouldn’t’ve.

The popularity of the War On Drugs probably maps well with Christian Nationalism also, and it was never meant to succeed, but to become a permanent fixture of racist policing. It is another dog whistle “national security level necessity” that the Democrats haven’t been able to fight effectively. If it was real, the people in Big Pharma who created the opioid crisis would be flat broke and in prison.
Of course ICE are doing the same shit, but away from a major media market. It’s all they know, and they love the cruelty.

The War on Drugs was part of the school to prison pipeline. From the 1920’s when marijuana and cocaine were vilified and connected to Blacks. So much of Christian nationalism is a dog whistle to the inner racist of white people. It is no accident that they are most popular in places where the Klan was strongest.
From what I understand ICE is as active in Minnesota now as it ever was in the surge. They haven’t really remove any agents. I’m surprised that there is wider national reporting on the draw down to hold them accountable.

The big draw for the national media about ICE in Minneapolis was the demonstrations and the crowd sourced reporting in a big city. Scattered about where every horrible action isn’t being recorded by multiple witnesses, the news rooms look for excitement elsewhere.
Apparently, other people in the world are contemplating the actual scale and evil of the Epstein network. https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2026/2/17/2369262/-Reason-for-the-Epstein-File-Cover-up-A-Crime-Against-Humanity?pm_campaign=front_page&pm_source=trending&pm_medium=web

When the ICE draw down was announced, pretty much everyone in Minnesota who was asked about it, responded with believe it when it is seen, and no one is reporting on whether it has occurred. It seems like a story whether it has happened or not, but especially if it hasn’t happened.

I very much doubt that the community people have taken their eyes off the ball. I hear that there are a bunch of reporters who used to work at the Washington Post looking for something to do.

That all brings up the question of what our media is turning into. With billionaires buying up legacy media companies and social media, the decentralized media of substacks and blogs may be coming back into style. I keep wondering if enough of the professional journalists like those let go at the WaPo or other outlets will get together to create a news coop or other jointly owned alternative media site.

I think a lot of them, those that love real journalism passionately, will do that if they can do it and still afford groceries.

Our evolving media-scape will yield some interesting alternatives to the networks and large print-Internet outlets. It is clear that individual substacks are not going to be sustainable for most reporters. They will need to combine to make it viable in a system. Wonkette and Crooks and Liars have a reader supported larger platform. Unfortunately, neither does original reporting and only repackages the reporting of others. Then there are outfits like the former Obama staffers on Crooked Media. I can’t imagine that the market being so awash with “out of work” reporters won’t result in some kind of new enterprise. Necessity is the mother of all invention, after all.

Revolution, I read somewhere long ago, is often caused by having too many un- or under employed intellectuals. I think that applies to the 4th Estate too.

THe whole War On Drugs has been a farce and waste of money….I live in the most religious state and I worry about the growing power of the religious right….the CERN after all that cash spent has it made a difference in physics? Just wondering chuq

Maybe CERN did make a big difference if it sent us to a different dimension. The War on Drugs, though, has served its purpose of maintaining White fear of Black crime. And, the religious right is not democratic. They’d be happy to reinstigate the Inquisition and Witch Hunts.

ICE didn’t go very far, just a few miles across the border where they are reportedly raiding construction sites and businesses around Eau Claire and other small communities along the western edge of Wisconsin.

We’ve seen sporadic coverage of protests around the country since ICE “left” Minnesota. I’m just frustrated that no reporter seems obligated to determine whether they’ve actually left or not. It seems like there is a story with national interest there.
Also, another question is who will be filling the concentration camps once Trump has completed the ethnic cleansing of the country and after sating his appetite for torturing undocumented immigrants and wringing as much money out of housing them for the private prison system, they’ll have to fill them with another population of people. Who will that be?

Ice/DHS is spending hundreds of millions of dollars to buy up or lease disused existing prisons and warehouses all over the country with the stated goal of having a capacity of well over 100,000 detainees. New “mega” facilities are being installed or are planned for Texas, New Hampshire and Indiana as well as anywhere else they think they can get away with it.
And yes, I am concerned as well about who is going to end up being imprisoned in these places. They’ve already snatched reporters, legal residents with no criminal convictions, children with cancer, etc. with impunity. I keep remembering how what’s his name literally called for the execution of those six senators who dared to make that video telling troops they did not have to follow illegal orders.

I keep waffling between fretting that the fascists have already gotten the upper hand and are beyond stoppable and that we still can wrest control of the country back from them. It is the ownership of corporations and the concentration of wealth and industry in fewer and fewer hands that has me the most concerned. Soon they will control much of our media, food production, and housing. What else do they need?
