It's been five long years of blogging the Trump years. We've laughed, we've cried, we've pulled some of our remaining hair out, but we've made it. It is almost done and our democracy, nation, and souls are still largely intact. Unfortunately, we're not through. There is much more to come as we stitch ourselves back together like some kind of common Frankenstein monster as we recover from the PTSD that Trump gave us and the needless deaths and suffering from #COVID19. We also have to keep #BidenHarris honest & progressive, oppose Republican obstructionism anti-democratic tendencies, and whatever other black swans await us. All of which will be addressed using good old-fashioned snarcky, sarcasticky, profaney fun and psychological insights.

The Republican Party has been acting with greater callousness towards the American public. None of their politicians seem to feel guilt, empathy, or remorse for the pain, suffering, or death they cause from the pandemic, the Big Lie, or abortion laws. They are obviously psychopaths.

It was a busy week. At least it was interesting. We had a slew of real blogging activity from pingbacks to commenters, plus new blog recommendations, news you may have missed, and #COVID19 in Cambodia.

Man, you’re going to want to read this one even if it is TL;DR. We’ve hit the treasure trove of authoritarian qualities and characteristics that explains a lot of the cray-cray we’re seeing across the country.

The first week of school is always a killer. The first week back to work after 18 months of idleness is a killer. Put them together, and, well, you get a shortened Whaz Up column.

If the GQP opposition to any rational response to a deadly pandemic that could produce an even worse variant makes no sense at all, it’s because you are not considering the ways that fear and waves of terror affect a population and how useful they are to would-be authoritarians like the GQP are.

Authoritarians use a technique called waves of terror where they manufacture periods of fear interspersed with brief moments of calm to drive a population to desperation. Will the waves of climate disasters and #COVID19 do the same thing? Are we more susceptible to authoritarian takeover because of climate change and the #COVID19 pandemic?

There is a film that explains the fascification of America that echo all of the analysis that Ye Olde Blogge has produced over the years. See how well it all matches up.

All fascist and authoritarian movements need a scapegoat. It is clear that #COVID19, the Delta Variant has upended their plans to run on anti-immigrant fear mongering, so they are just making everything bad is because of immigrants and by extension the replacement theory. Here’s an example.

Conspiracy theories seem to abound throughout the media. They seem to have the conservatives in a fever grip of nonsensical nonreality. What makes them so difficult to dispel?
