Post Office

Call Your MoC about the Post Office Monkey Shines by the Trump Regime

We’ve all seen the headlines and the accusations in our social media feeds: the Ol’ Pussy Grabber is sabotaging the post office to stop vote-by-mail to benefit his re-election chances. Who knows if it will work. First, vote-by-mail does not favor either party, so sabotaging the post office is just as likely to hurt him as the Dems. And second, people love and rely on the post office. Sabotaging the mail is likely to piss people off, politicize the few remaining who are not already politicized, and incentivize voter turn out against him.

  • Trump admits he is sabotaging USPS to stop vote-by-mail for personal benefit (The Guardian) — The Ol’ Pussy Grabber blurts his goal of limiting funding of the postal office because without proper funding, the postal office cannot handle the increased influx of mail and there won’t be universal vote-by-mail.
  • USPS removes mail boxes and reduces post office hours (CNN) — His campaign donor, Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, has ordered changes in the way the post office works that will radically slow mail delivery. Not only will this interfere with vote-by-mail, but it is wrecking havoc with the delivery of prescriptions, bills, bill payments, and other vital parcels and pieces of mail that USPS delivers. Can you imagine what Christmas is going to be like if this keeps up?
  • USPS removes mail sorting machines (HuffPost) — Not only are they removing these million-dollar machines that can sort tens of thousands of pieces of mail an hour, they are destroying them! They will NEVER come back unless we buy new ones. Like so much the Ol’ Pussy Grabber does, this is long-term damage for a dubious short-term gain. So much for being the very model of a modern stable genius, hunh?

We know that to save our democracy, we must defend her institutions. The only institution that matters right now is that of our election. The post office is directly connected. Defending the post office is defending the election.

We know that direct pressure works. Directly pressuring your members of Congress to contact the postmaster general and demand that he not only stop sabotaging USPS delivery capabilities, but he reverse them immediately. He has to restore the post boxes and sorting machines they’ve removed. If necessary, he has to ask Congress for money to replace the sorting machines they’ve destroyed. Otherwise, talk about a war on Christmas, no one is going to feel like saying Merry Christmas if they can’t mail their packages across the country three days before the big day!

The Script

Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [STATE and LOCALITY].

I’m calling today in support of the United States Postal Service and to ask you to contact Postmaster General DeJoy to demand that he (a) stop degrading the ability of the postal service to deliver mail by curtailing working hours, removing sorting machines, and removing post boxes and (b) restore the hours, sorting machines, and post boxes even if it means asking Congress for more money.
