There has been much whining about how inadequate our presidential choices will be in 2024 given that Trump and Biden are likely to be candidates nominated by their parties. It is looking like Republican dark money will have Robert Kennedy, Jr. on the ballots on all fifty states. And Joe Manchin’s ego and Republican dark money will get him on the No Labels ticket in all fifty states.
The problem, as was in 2016, is that in a binary system, like we have, you only really have two choices with your vote:
- Help elect Joe Biden and Democrats or
- Help elect I2I4, Republicans, and usher in fascism
However, you have four possible voting choices that will result in one of those two outcomes. I’ll list the choices and map them to the outcomes:
- Vote Biden and the Democrats –> Help elect Biden, the Democrats, and save our democracy
- Vote I2I4 and the Republicans –> Help elect Trump, the Republicans, and usher in fascism
- Vote third party or write in a candidate –> Help elect Trump, the Republicans, and usher in fascism
- Stay home and not vote –> Help elect Trump, the Republicans, and usher in fascism
It was the same in 2016. If we’re not careful, we’ll have the same electoral outcome but with much more dire consequences than a 6 – 3 conservative majority on the Supreme Court for the next generation and the overturning of Roe v Wade. We just won’t have a democracy any more even though white folks will still be able to vote.
I made this meme to help us all keep it straight in our heads:

Merry Happy Festivus and everything else, y’all. Hope we’re all satisfied with the outcome of the 2024 election this time next year unlike what we were in 2016. All I’m saying is think about it.

Trump promises a 1-Day blood bath, Heads going to roll, if he wins ’24.
1)) Returns the US dollar to a commidty gold based currency by closing down the Federal Reserve and negating all US debt owed to those private bank monopolies.
2)) Ends the Russian/Ukraine War in a day. Here’s the deal: The US pulls out of Nato in exchange that Putin pulls out of the Ukraine.
3)) Restores the Rights of the States to bureaucratically regulate all intra-State trade and commerce by disbanding all the Federal bureaucracies.
President Trump does this on Day 1 after sworn into Office, and manages the feathers flying for the next 4 years.

Uh, right?
Probably why he won’t win in ’24 if he makes all of that clear in his campaign.

You’re right Jack. It’s more of an either/or selection for President this year.

We’ve gotta keep reminding people of that because we cannot afford another 2016.

If Trump is candidate A, it’s not a multiple choice world to me unless you select B for Biden.

Hopefully that’s the way most people will treat it… but, you never can tell with all the fear mongering the Republicans are going to do in the run up to the election and the dirty money that will be backing third party candidates.

My apologies for my lack of reply. We had reports due and a school trip. Thanks for the tip about your posts. I’ve swung by but literally didn’t have the time to respond. Now that it is Chinese New Year — Happy Year of the Dragon — I have a little free time to do so.

Thanks Bob. It is similar to one I made in 2017 about the 2016 election that was actually well received on social media, although far from going viral. I’ve pretty much given up on social media, except for the blog, so there’s that.

Another argument against those who complain that neither candidate takes them all the way to their preferred end result – if you sit at the bus stop instead of taking the bus going the right direction because the bus doesn’t go all the way to your stop, you’ll be sitting at that bus stop until fascism wins.
Really, also vote more people into “lesser” positions or the president can’t do a whole lot to change things. He does interact with international entities. Isn’t that his primary function? (go ahead, correct me, I’m pretty sure I’m wrong on that point)
So, not just U.S. senators and representatives, but state races are a big deal. County and city races, too. School board! Dog catcher! School board! Find out what you can about the candidates and vote for those that actually care about the Constitution.

Howdy M!
Your cat makes the most cogent point I’ve heard all day.
You are absolutely right, though. The Great Civics Lesson is rediscovering how democracy works. No one gets everything they want, but we all get something. Compromise is the way of democracy, moderation is the effect.
And you’re right about the president needing help, not only in Congress and the Courts, but also, at the state and local level. He’s been criticized for not codifying Roe v Wade when the Dems had both Houses of Congresses his first two years, but the Senate filibustered the effort. We need a larger majority in Congress than we’ve had to achieve our legislative and policy goals.
To use Mike Johnson’s metaphor, we cannot be electing wolves to our government. We must elect people who understand and support our Constitution.
