The Felonious Racist Traitor has been shot!
My first reactions:
- It couldn’t’ve happened to a more deserving fellow. I’ve been waiting for someone to take this shot for the past eight year.
- I guess #BidenSoOld gets pushed out of the news cycle, for at least the next few hours.
- Now, he’s a martyr.
- The Second American Civil War is real.
First, Ye Olde Blogge does not condone violence in any way shape or form. It does not have a role in politics or our daily social life. It is a horrible symptom of how much we have deteriorated as a civil society.
Still, Schadenfreude has to say, you reap what you sow, motherfucker. The Felonious Rapist Traitor has been preaching and using violence in his attempt to create the #GOPDystopia, and it came within a couple of centimeters of ending him.
To be perfectly honest, it’s too bad he missed so badly because now Trump and MAGA will milk this incident for all that it is worth. He’s a martyr now. It may well be the death knell of our democracy since it is likely to rally the MAGA faithful like nothing else could.
Blood is literally in the water and Rep Mike Collins has already Xitted that it was a hit issued by Joe Biden. For fucks sake. We’re literally going to have to wade through this shit for the rest of our lives. And, it started before the blood even dried.
It’s enough to make you think it was a false flag operation, except that kind of shot — it was a long shot from outside the Secret Service perimeter — is so unreliable that you couldn’t be sure that he wouldn’t’ve been killed even if you were trying to miss.
The third point is that we really are in a Second American Civil War. Violence has been increasing even as crime has been dropping almost exponentially, but you’ll never read the banner headlines announcing that in the Mexican Novella-KPop Drama political press. Gotta keep the repugnant narcissist in the race if we’re going to have clickbait, amirite?
It’s so funny because there’s a post coming on the Second American Civil War, but #BidenSoOld kept pushing it off the publishing schedule. This just pushed it to the front of the queue.
What are your thoughts on the first high-level assassination attempt Ronald Reagan was gunned down?

I fear that most of that is right. The Republicans — and by Republicans, I mean, of course, the Russian disinformation campaign — realized that the liberal base was more energized and fired up and ready to turn out in November than the MAGA base. That’s easy political math right there. They weren’t going to attract new voters and would be lucky to hold on to even most of their 2020 vote. Again, easy political math. So, the only way to win is to drive down support for Biden, and the only way to do that is to attack his cognitive functioning and now to cool the Project 2025 and fascist anti-democratic rhetoric by having Trump injuring. Both of which will drive down support for Biden and allow their lies to boost support from MAGA and not further alienate independent swing voters.
Of course, the fucking shooter missed. Of course, he did. Now, we’re in a WORSE situation than before.

We are a well-armed society with sky-is-falling, 24/7 news coverage on both sides of the political spectrum (there are only two). Civilized and rational debate no longer makes money and is therefore hard to come by. There’s been a steady ratcheting up of violent speech… So, I’m not surprised.
In this climate, the failed attempt may well work in Trump’s favor.

That’s what I figure. It works in Trump’s favor. But, most of the violent speech and politicizing polarizing speech and well-armedness is located squarely on one side of the political spectrum. It’s not even a he started it situation. They do it. We don’t. The press reports it as both sides.
The MAGA logic is that because Trump was impeached, they should impeach Biden, because Trump was investigated, indicted, and, now, convicted, they get to do the same to Biden, and, now, that Trump has been shot at and injured by shrapnel, they get to take shots at Biden.
That’s the logic of the other side. No one on the liberal side is ratcheting up political hate speech, violence, or polarization. We’ve been trying to figure out a way back from the brink that preserves our democracy and allows us to work with these yahoos.

I can’t help wondering if the RNC hired a bad shot gunman to make a martyr out of the cheeto….anything to rally their troops for the project 2025 morons.

Since the RNC is Laura Trump and the other drooling goon, I can’t imagine them being able to rub their hands together for warmth much less something as sophisticated as this. If it is anyone, it is the Russians.

My first reaction was, “You reap what you sow.”, but the lesson of that ancient observation will be lost on Trump and his followers.
The number, variety, and creativity of the conspiracy theories to come will be immense.
The after action debriefing of the Secret Service team was not fun for anybody. They will be erring on the side of caution to the frustration of all candidates.
There will be at least one attempt to attack Biden or one of his events (i.e., either targeted assassination, or mass casualty type). And, there will be others thinking about succeeding where this shooter failed. Some of them will have more training, experience, and choice of weapons.
Yes, this was not the last shot, only the first.
We are yet to learn the motive of this shooter and how he came to go from feeling to action.

You can bet all of the conspiracy theories, though, will have the same ending, more violence in American politics because the tail wagging that dog is Russian.
You can already hear MAGA applying their impeachment and Trump prosecution logic to the problem: You impeached ours; we’ll impeach yours. You indicted and prosecuted me, I’ll indict and prosecute you. They’re already saying Biden “ordered a hit.” You can see the gears working, it’s only fair that we can take a shot at Biden.
I read a report that the shooter was a registered Republican voter and a gun enthusiast for whatever that is worth.
Hopefully, this will be a sobering moment in American politics, but like everything else in our current state, there’s only one side that is sober.

There are many on the MAGA side who want any kind of get back they can get. The GOP are calling on the Democrats to tone down their rhetoric calling Trump a fascist and a danger to democracy, but not on their own people calling for violent revolution (because the election is already being stolen) and just killing the bad people (Mark Robinson, GOP candidate for Governor of North Carolina). I’m working on a blog post on that subject.
My dark thought of the day is that if the Secret Service makes it too hard to get a shot at the top guy, the fall back will be to attack the followers, any gathering of Democrats that appears vulnerable. And, bump stocks are legal now.

In America’s new civil war and like in all terrorist actions against the state, soft targets are the name of the game. People with poor executive functioning will insist on taking shots at Biden and Harris, but those with a modicum of planning will start hunting soft targets.
The problem with they impeached, indicted, tried, and convicted Trump, now we get to do the same to Biden is that Trump did things that deserved impeachment, indictment, and conviction. There is actual evidence of wrong doing. It is the same of calling Trump a fascist. If he wasn’t a fascist, we wouldn’t be calling him one.
I see that the Republicans are so worried about the political rhetoric that they’ve told all of their convention speakers to NOT change their speeches in lieu of the shrapnel damage to Trump.

The Republicans don’t seem much concerned with facts and evidence, or, rather, other people’s facts and evidence. Part of the point of gaining absolute power is the ability to enforce your own version of facts and evidence. It always works for a while, but reality is a far more stubborn adversary than any mere human organization, ideology, or religion.
The only change in those speeches will be to wave the bloody shirt and accuse Biden, but they were going to accuse him of so much that it doesn’t matter.

I think the key thing to remember is that in photos from the day moments after the attack, Trump’s left ear is intact. It was not struck by a bullet. It may have been grazed by a bullet. Maybe. More than likely it was grazed by shrapnel from the shattered teleprompter. As the conspiracy theories multiply, the wound inflicted on Trump will grow worser and more grievous. Keep a copy of those pictures.
It is possible that this was just another mass shooting event as opposed to an attack that targeted Trump for political reasons. I wonder if the shooter left a manifesto or anything like that. It sounds like he was just a kid who got an idea and had trouble not acting on it. More on that in another post.

The difficulty the FBI is having finding any clue to a motive is unusual in a political attack. That leaves a lot of room for speculation and conspiracy theories.

I just published my theory. I think this fellow was more like your typical high school shooter than anything else. I think Trump and his rally were a target of opportunity caused by obsessive thinking. See the newest post, and let me know what you think.

Bunch of BS. I’d bet the house that the kid was paid to be there & to shoot Trump but not kill him. So he’s now a martyr. Anyone with a few hours training could hit that big orange with a killing shot. It’s not hard to do. (I’m a former hunter so I know what I’m talking about).

The thing is that a shot that far is an unpredictable thing. You couldn’t be certain that he’d miss no matter how good of a shot he was. And, if he were paid in rubles, maybe they didn’t care which way it went. I’m just saying.

Unpredictable, my ass. There are guns that can shoot 600 yards accurately. All you have to do is practice. & not even that much. Again, it’s not hard to do. Especially an AR-15 that sprays a dozen or more bullets in a matter of seconds.
No, this thing stinks of a paid event, something to make Trump into a martyr.
Funny how Democrat & liberals always get killed. JFK, RFK, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X. Just off the top of my head.
Reagan? Yeah, he was shot but not fatally. He became a martyr. & all kinds of people who didn’t especially like him suddenly felt sorry for him & prayed for him & all that BS.
JUST LIKE WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS MORNING.

You know more about it than I do. But, I do feel your pain on the deaths of so many good liberal politicians and other folks. I add to your list the people killed at the Mother Emmanuel Church and dozen other attempts to set off a “race” war with a mass shooting.

And, Trump getting SHOT, gave him that, much desired attention, which will boast his ego even more, and, chances are, he’ll be, playing the, “sympathy hand”, using his getting shot, to, manipulate those who are, currently, still, “undecide”, either way, it does NOT look good for the U.S.’s, furure.

Not just no, but hell no. It will increase calls for more gun liberties. More vigilantism. More armed good guys with guns with more permission to anyone who scares them. Trump and MAGA are going to be howling for revenge against Biden personally. It makes it all the more likely that someone will a shot at liberal politicians, office holders, and figures.
I swear it really tempts the conspiracy theorist in me to say it was a false flag and the plan all along was to hit a teleprompter and hopefully injure Trump, but it woudn’t be absolutely necessary. If that was the plan, then they got the best of all possible worlds, a slightly injured Trump who can harp on this for the rest of his life.
I doubt it was a plan since a shot of that length is too wildly unpredictable.
We are spiralling around the shitter. We’re on the third flush by now. We’ll see if the turd of our democracy gets removed with this one.

You’re already seeing vestiges of the same reasoning as used for impeachment. “They impeached one of ours! Not fair! We get to impeach theirs now, too!” It is the same, “They shot at one of ours! Not fair! We get to shoot at theirs, too!”

There is a certain entertainment value to conspiracy theories, and they can be turned into quite a lucrative monetary stream. I’ve been tempted more than once…
And, hey, just like being paranoid, just because you spun it up out of whole cloth, it doesn’t mean it’s wrong.

Ugh. I’ve been busy, and haven’t kept up with YeOlde posts, but I still have the emails and will get to them. I want to like this one, but some of the commentary is the tiniest bit more than I am comfortable with (pardon my grammar but it’s bedtime,) so I didn’t click like. There is much with which I agree, like the martyr stuff, which is interesting in that all martyrs before Don had to be dead to be martyrs. But I agree, they will claim it while disavowing anything they’ve done to incite violence. I also recall a similar situation, though popping-sounds-less and bloodless, during his 2016 campaign, so there’s that.
It’s abhorrent that this happened, IMO. Two people are dead. It’s going to have to shake out. While it does, I wish network TV would go back to regular programming, instead of standing around taking turns on camera asking each other questions about the future that no one can answer. Maybe they should call Miss Cleo. Good night!

Thank you for the late night commentary, Ali.
I know that I pushed the envelope on this one, but I write what I see and think. Frankly, I’ve been surprised that no one took a more serious shot at Obama or a shot at Biden or Trump before now. We’ve been stewing in a permission structure for political violence for quite some time now.
Assassination is inherently political. My response to it is inherently political. The political reality is that it helps Trump.
We’ve been building towards this moment for years. The Secret Service has lost a step, which has been obvious since Obama was in office an no one noticed people shooting at the White House.
Two people are dead. Two are seriously wounded. And, we just got closer to the brink.
