I guess the old saying really is true, there really is a useful idiot born every minute judging from all the crap being posted to social media about the Democratic primary. With voting scheduled to start in the Democratic presidential primary in a little more than two weeks, the Russian bots and their volunteer squad of useful idiots are out in full force.
It inspired this meme. I think it is one of the funniest things I’ve come up with in a while. Use it as needed, please.
Meme: Useful Idiot
Don’t be an idiot. Go ahead, download it and share it and pass it around.
It's been five long years of blogging the Trump years. We've laughed, we've cried, we've pulled some of our remaining hair out, but we've made it. It is almost done and our democracy, nation, and souls are still largely intact. Unfortunately, we're not through. There is much more to come as we stitch ourselves back together like some kind of common Frankenstein monster as we recover from the PTSD that Trump gave us and the needless deaths and suffering from #COVID19. We also have to keep #BidenHarris honest & progressive, oppose Republican obstructionism anti-democratic tendencies, and whatever other black swans await us. All of which will be addressed using good old-fashioned snarcky, sarcasticky, profaney fun and psychological insights.

This makes me wonder whether Putin would find Trump more useful as a reelected President or as a defeated one who refuses to accept the election result. Given Putin’s way of strategic thinking, I imagine it is a question he may be asking.
Howdy Bob!
I imagine Putin has a plan for it going either way. I’m sure he has his preference for which one is better, but I’m equally sure he’s ready to exploit both outcomes and ones we haven’t even considered.
I’ve always wondered whether Trump was in on it or whether Putin is just manipulating him for some of it and relying on Trump’s naturally destructive behaviors for the rest. Seriously, Putin has had to do very little the man is as destructive as a hurricane. All Putin really needed to do is get him elected — which wasn’t the plan, either! Putin really was just hoping to so damage Clinton that her presidency would be ineffective — and Trump would do the rest just by being Trump.
I agree. The whole quest in the Mueller investigation for “collusion”, “conspiracy”, or “coordination” was so fruitless because all Putin really needed to do was feed things into Trump’s Tweet Machine indirectly and let Trump be Trump. Also, Putin and his minions knew Trump well for years and that he is not a trustworthy co-conspirator, mostly in the “Loose Lips Sink Ships” sense. The point of the infamous Trump Tower meeting was just to establish that Team Trump was willing to conspire and vulnerable to “compromat”.
I wouldn’t be at all surprised to learn that Hannity was the most direct link between the Trump campaign and Putin just throwing up the Russian talking points on his nightly show and reinforcing them in their phone conversations.
Also, Putin could easily listen to his unsecured phone conversations. The whole thing is a nightmare mess that the GOP led us into by not being more rigorous in their selection process.
I wouldn’t be surprised if pretty much every spy service on the planet (including private hackers) have been listening on his phone, including NSA and CIA (We have to know what the others know.). My favorite candidates for a horrendous data dump from that would be Iran and N. Korea, but when?
As for the GOP selection process, none of the other candidates and their campaigns in the primaries had a ghost of a clue how to deal with Trump, and the Never Trumpers didn’t believe he could win until he did. They were all operating in a different reality from him. So, alas, is Joe Biden, still.
Howdy Bob!
I’m afraid you’re right about the Keystone Kops who were running against Trump in 2016. If that was a deep bench, then the GOP is in bad shape. But, the party itself could’ve stepped in to stop him winning and should’ve. A narcissist in his position is completely predictable. The GOP, like Putin, realized that they could use him for their own ends and set about making nice with him shortly after he assumed office.
It probably is testimony to the inanity of his conversation that there has been no dump of his conversations or that people are wanting to keep the pipeline open. If they told what they’d heard, he might stop doing it.
Between Trump’s election and Brexity, we have proof that just because a decision has been made democratically, it isn’t automatically the best decision. We’ve got to have an informed electorate that promotes democratic values above party and candidate.
The GOP as presently constructed is desperate to hang on to whatever power it has in the face of the demographic math that will doom it and the old white men who run it within 30 years. They cannot conceive of becoming a party that represents people of color, non-Christians, women, and (in the face of climate change) future generations. They do appear to be willing to accept King Donald and the Trump dynasty rather than do that hard thinking and change with the times.

Here’s the funny thing about that meme. I thought I had already posted it. I spent about 20 minutes trying to find the link to it tonight. Then I realized I hadn’t actually posted it to the blog!
