UPDATED 9 JANUARY: There are several developments to be aware of after this post was published:
- There are three sets of Articles of Impeachment circulating in the House. One seems to be favored, but I don’t know which one. If you know, please tell us in the comments.
- Impeachment can occur with a floor vote of a bare majority, so it can be done quickly.
- Mitch McConnell has stated that he will bring impeachment to the floor of the Senate on 19 January. Even though Georgia could certify it’s elections on 15 January and Ossoff and Warnock are sworn in, Chuck Schumer won’t become majority leader until Harris is VP. As long as Pence is VP, McConnell is majority leader. We need to pressure Mitch McConnell to remove Trump.
- It will take a two-thirds majority of the Senate to remove him, but can occur without a trial. According to Neal Katyal on The ReidOut on MSNBC, it could be done in as little as three days.
- Trump could be convicted after leaving office, though.
- According to The Rachel Maddow Show, the Senate can vote immediately after removal to ban Trump from federal office for the rest of his life with a simple majority vote.
- The real goal is to make it so Trump can never be elected again by disqualifying him for election. There is bipartisan support for this idea. Again, PRESSURING MITCH MCCONNELL TO CONVICT AND REMOVE IS ESSENTIAL.
Our Members of Congress need to know that we support impeaching and removing Trump from office. It is imperative that we call or otherwise contact our Members of Congress and voice our support. After Trump’s Seditious Riot on 6 January, he has made it clear that he did not learn a lesson from a year ago. He didn’t learn his lesson from the Mueller Report. And even though he woodenly stumbled through his scripted statement supporting a peaceful transfer of power on 20 January, you can’t trust it. We all know he believes whatever he’s saying whenever he says it. When it strikes him to be his advantage to do it again, he’ll do it disavowal or not. So, help your Members of Congress not only support impeachment, but removal this time.
We know that Rep Ilhan Omar and others have already written the Articles of Impeachment and Rep Jerry Nadler has said he wants it going directly to the floor bypassing his committee as documented in these tweets:

I’m calling today to express my support for Rep. Ilhan Omar’s articles of impeachment. I urge you to adopt the articles of impeachment and Trump’s conviction in the Senate.
Trump has demonstrated that his destructive behavior will not be curbed, indeed it seems only to escalate. He did not learn from the Mueller Report or his first impeachment. He has now fomented a direct assault on Congress. He simply cannot be trusted. He must be removed from office.

Tips for Calling
When you call your representative’s office, please remember the following:
- Only contact YOUR MoC! They only listen to their constituents and dismiss requests from non-constituents.Ask for the aide working on the policy-related issues.
- Be polite! No matter whose office you’re calling. No matter what their positions are. No matter how inflamed you are about the issue — and you should be very passionate — be polite.
- Remember that the people you are talking to are people! So, be nice.
- Call during business hours of the area code their office is in. Typically, that is 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Have a script or notes to follow so you don’t forget anything.
- Maybe call with friends. You know like a party.
In Addition to Calling
I’ve heard back from readers that some MoC’s voice mail boxes are always full! It’s as if they don’t want to hear from their constituents. Kinda like those MoC’s who don’t hold town halls or other open forum meetings. Here are some other ways to contact your MoC:
- Send a postcard to their office. Nothing says I care like kicking it old school and using snail mail.
- Email their office. Lay out your concerns in a brief email and send it in. We all know how easy it is to email. Make sure you include the issue you are addressing in the subject line.
- Use the contact page on their website. This is the surest way of getting a message to them. Each MoC has an official government website and each has a contact page that comes with it automatically.
- Contact them using social media. It’s hard to break through all the noise on social media, but it can’t hurt to try given all the time we all spend using it. Be sure to tag your MoC’s when social mediaing about about a specific issue. Be clear and respectful, though, when addressing an issue that you want your MoC to act upon. Make sure you let them know you are a constituent.

IMO – Any MOC or Senator who does not vote (as appropriate to their Chamber) to impeach or remove Trump will be in violation of their Oath Of Office.
As for his guilt, The MOCs and Senators have just lived through the Prima Facie evidence. If the charge is kept simple to that event, a Senate trial could be quick. They are all witnesses first hand. A bi-partisan verdict is possible. Removal, should it happen needs to be followed my immediate arrest. A charge of Treason would be a stretch, but considering what Russia, China, Iran, Syria, and others are doing with the images and reports of what happened on Wednesday, “providing aid and comfort” might qualify.

Is that three days to just impeach, or the Senate process as well? I question the utility of doing it if the Senate either will not have time before the 20th to take it up, or fails to convict and remove. Allowing him to be acquitted again (giving him a win on the way out the door) could be worse than letting the clock run out. So, are there at least 16 Republican Senators ready to dump the Trump? IDK, but Nancy and Mitch are very experienced vote counters, and there just might be enough.

I understood him to say three days to impeach, convict, and remove. Apparently, there doesn’t have to be a long drawn out trial if the Senate doesn’t want there to be just like the House doesn’t need to engage in a debate before adopting the articles.
The right is working hard on spinning the whole mess in order to blunt the momentum with bullshit. If they could do it next week, i.e. overcome a recalcitrant McConnell and get him out of office. There are GOP Senators who will vote to convict and remove. Whether or not that is the 16 that are needed or not, I don’t know.

Exactly! This is a play that has been perfected using mass shootings. The statements of thoughts and prayers and it’s not time for politics are cynically used to deflect the emotional response to the shootings, and they’ll use those same techniques here to obfuscate, confuse, deflate our reaction to Trump’s 6 January insurrection.

But it is doing something, it is stopping people from thinking critically about the issue and diverting them into an argument about whether we should be healing and uniting rather than holding people accountable and being outraged by an act of insurrection instigated by the president and his Congressional supporters and perpetrated by his followers.It really is the same game plan that they use to divert us off of passing gun reform laws.

With a large portion of MAGAnation, healing and uniting is not a possibility. Those who can’t be directly prosecuted (including the cynical enablers) need to be driven back under the rocks they crawled from under at Trump’s invitation.

With the social media platforms getting nasty about bad content, a significant portion of the commonly accessed flood of reinforcing messaging will be reduced, and the vast majority of ordinary users don’t know how to get to the Dark Web, and the denizens of that realm will be more cautious about letting them in lest they be infiltrated. And, if the media enablers start feeling pressure from lawyers using words like “sedition” and “conspiracy”, they and their platforms will get more cautious.
