The news is full of breathless speculation on who I2I4 will choose as his VP. Frankly, it is just more normalization of Trump’s abnormality. I mean, Senator Rubio is on the list. For God’s sake, has anyone learned anything about the gross caricature of a human meat puppet? He’s giving him the Mitt Romney treatment. The hands thing was a deep narcissistic wound for Trump. He’s just avenging that by getting Rubio’s hopes up and seeing him dance for the position before he crushes him with a horrific rebuke.
The political press contributes mightily to our political crisis and is doing some heavy lifting in the destruction of our democracy.
Let’s apply narcissism and lessons learned over the past eight years to the process. What does Trump want in a VEEP? A bucket of warm piss. That’s what he wants. He wants a no body who will contribute nothing but adoration and do as told. They cannot have any ambition that Trump is aware of. They cannot be any threat or competition for him.
Not only do they have to have nothing that they can bring to the ticket, they can’t have anything to contribute to administration. They have to be willing to be Dan Quayle and play golf for the rest of their career and give occasional advice to shocked and appalled, yet still not sure of what to do, future VP’s of future fascist wannabe dictators when their limited values and morals are challenged.
That’s it. The only thing they do is check a box and give Trump something he can point to and brag about. Who on the list fits that bill better than Sen Tim Scott (R-Shuckin’ and Jivin’)?
Seriously, Stefanik? Really? The woman who shit canned her moderate credentials — something that seemed genuine, though — for the chance to be part of the leadership team of the 119th circle jerk Congress? Anyone with the kind of ambition and willingness to give their mother a frontal lobotomy if they could climb another rung higher that Stefanik has displayed would be worse than Mike “Gawd Says I’ll Be President” Pence in Trump’s view.
Kristi “The Puppy Executioner” Noem? I2I4 is laughing at her loser ass for having stepped in a pile of rotting dog corpse and not having the sense to wipe it off of her foot and continuing to track it around her home. She looks great, but anyone willing to tell the bald-faced lie that she met Kim Jung Un is too much competition for Trump. He only likes women that he can pay to do what he wants.
The spotlight hounds, Maddog Greene, Tucker Carlson, Kari Lake, Vivek Ramasmarmy don’t stand a chance. Trump will brook no competition for the spotlight.
The ambitious types who think of themselves as having a career like Greg Abbott, Nancy Mace, or Byron Donalds are not what the felonious authoritarian wants in a VEEP.
The people who don’t need him like Doug Burgham, Mike Pompeo, and Sarah Huckabee Sanders are not needy enough to be trusted by the paranoid deteriorating Trump.
The people who do need him like Ben Carson, JD Vance, and Tulsi Gabbard are too needy not to be considered losers and an albatross around his neck. He ain’t carrying no body.
That pretty much leaves Tim Scott who is as milquetoast as you can get and compares rather favorably to a bucket of warm piss… and we all know how much Trump loves him some pee hookers.
I’d love to hear your handicapping of the VEEP Stakes.

The scariest part Jack would be if the VP peon he chooses accidentally become President if Trump strokes out.

That’s what was scary about Pence. He actually had an agenda and could get things done. If he had become president, which he believed god had told him he would, he would’ve moved much more directly to create a theocracy and the end of days.
Luckily, this time round Trump is not going to pick anyone who will in any way, shape, or form out perform him. He wants Sam Rayburn’s bucket of warm spit. He doesn’t want anyone who has any capability or who has ever crossed him. That strikes most of the people discussed off of the list.
I think he will pick Tim Scott. He is a nothing and a nobody. He has no thoughts of his own. He has no ambitions. He has no discernible skill other than being a tall middle-aged black senator. He may have voted to certify the 2020 election, but Trump will accept that as political expediency.

I would be surprised if he picked a minority for this position , Jack.

I’m not. I’d be surprised if he picks anyone other than Tim Scott. Scott seems to have all the attributes he’s looking for in a VP.

So were you surprised he picked Vance? Not me. Another obsequious white man to him fits well.

Only a little. Trump doesn’t like beards and appearance is very important to him. He also does like people with ambition, which Vance clearly has. However, Vance also has demonstrated that he knows his place and is willing to keep it. Vance has demonstrated that he is completely malleable, willing to take any form or idea or thought required by Trump. In short, he’s reliably sycophantic.

I agree but Vance adds nothing to expanding the clientele who might vote for him. People can’t be that stupid to pick Trump and mini me Trump.

Vance doesn’t actually bring anything to the ticket, which is exactly what Trump wants. He doesn’t want anyone who can lay claim to a portion of any success, and he wants someone he can blame for any failure. Maybe, that’s the appeal of Vance. The easy scapegoat for a loss.
Given that anyone in the country thinks Trump is a viable acceptable candidate for the office, I’d say, yes, yes we are so stupid as a country that we’d elect Trump and mini-Trump.

Kamala’s “Know Em Dead” acceptance speech last night hopefully will energize more voters to destroy his mouth and vote in greater numbers.

It is Monday evening here, and I still feel drained from the emotional roller coaster that the DNC was for me. I’ve also got DNC withdrawal. I need my shot of hope, joy, and dopamine. There are studies of elections in which enthusiasm can predict the outcome and doing simple things like going to protest marches, rallies, or even just viewing the convention on TV signifies enthusiasm and a commitment. It’s like you have the thought, I participated in this with all these other people, so now, I’ll go out and vote and do other things. It’s the action that signifies the commitment and makes voting much more likely.

Thank you for your continued reading. I appreciate it. I’m struggling a bit right now due to a cold and the beginning of the school year, so your comment is timely. I needed to hear it.

Getting fartherer out on the thin limb I started out a month or so ago: I don’t see him in it
Speculation is not of the nature of The Gift. There’s plenty of reasons why and I don’t need to redetail them here, just leave it at I don’t see it … and whatever these bimbos do, and I do mean whatever, isn’t gonna’ count for anything
And that’s as far as I want to go, but to point out neither the repubs nor the dems are prepared for that …

I think it will make a lot of people very happy if it turns out he isn’t in it. Hoping the Gift keeps on giving.

Hmmm – Is there a BOWP available with a very large pocket to pick, gobs of dark money with which to buy the job? Clearly, anybody with real ambition to be the heir apparent of the Great Leader when he dies or has to be moved to a very private memory unit by way of the 25th Amendment need not apply. Also, anyone who ever said a bad thing about him should know better than think they can get any job with him other than Fall Guy In Waiting.
Still, right now, watching them dance and crawl and kiss the ring may be the only fun he’s having, so he will play them as long as possible, not just for the Veep job, but cabinet posts, judgeships, everything.

Trump’s narcissism causes him to think that whoever he picks will be a brilliant pick. He’s only concerned right now about the dancers and crawlers and genuflecters. And, no body who has wronged him will be accepted. He will find the cruelest way possible to string them along and lower the hammer on them.
From about 2016 to 2018, it was funny. It got a whole lot less funny in 2019. By the time 2020 rolled around and #COVID19 rolled in, it was downright horrifying. Now, it is just sad to watch the whole tired mess trying to squeeze the last few cents out of Trump, MAGA, and our democracy.

That sums it up pretty well. And Haley is still scoring 20%+ in the late primaries, saying they can never again vote for Trump. So, the train wreck may be in slow motion, but it is still a train wreck.

As happy as I am that there are more prominent people coming to similar conclusions, I don’t enjoy the company of Charlie Sykes and other “reformed” GOP hate mongers who are now making a far above average living off of hating Trump after having contributed biggly to the rhetorical and permission structure that produced Trump. They were all in on the Southern Strategy and racist dog whistles and the massive transfer of wealth out of the middle class until Trump removed the the thin golden veneer that he was helping paint over their shit.
Sorry, Charlie Sykes and Rick Wilson and the rest of those folks just get me going. Until they acknowledge their complacincy and apologize to people like Max Cleland and John Kerry and Communities of Color and the rest of the country for their role in poisoning our politics, I’m happy they are using all that talent and understanding to oppose Trump and fight their move toward fascism. Politics throws a lot folks into the foxhole with you, but it doesn’t mean you gotta like them.

I suspect that for a lot of them their greatest problem with Trump (other, perhaps that he is simply a disgusting excuse for a human being and a social climber, not Old Money) is that they think he’s going to lose again. Give them “one of their own” in the White House and they would follow Project 2025 all the way.
