Recently Trump posted some remarks about being an absolute ruler:

  • CONGESTION PRICING IS DEAD. Manhattan, and all of New York, is SAVED. LONG LIVE THE KING!
  • HE WHO SAVES THE COUNTRY DOES NOT VIOLATE THE LAW.

On my social media, I’ve seen a lot of discussion about how much coverage the for-profit, alternative, and social media should be giving these comments. Some people think we should be screaming from the rooftops, some that we should ignore it as distractions from the destruction, grifting, and looting that the administration has undertaken.

Who knows what the right answer is for any given incident that Trump pulls out of his flabby hairless white ass?

The real question is what can we as individuals be doing to help stop this madness? As Joyce Vance says in her Civil Discourse substack, column, The Courts Aren’t The Calvary, We Are. Her idea is that we the voters will be the ultimate check on Trump’s reign of idiot oligarchs. But, I don’t think we can rely on the 2026 midterms as our savior from this madness. First, there’s way too much damage that they’re doing way too quickly for a course correction in two years to actually save us. This is no where more clear than in fight against climate change, the economic chaos they are unleashing, and their response to the war in Ukraine.

And, second, 2026 is not likely to be anything close to a free and fair election given the dismantling of the FBI and CIA, which were our most powerful weapons against foreign disinformation campaigns. The flood of foreign money that they’ve welcomed into the inauguration committee fund, purchase of the $Trump bitcoin thingy, and super pacs. The state laws that rigged the vote in 2024 will only get worse as will the purging of voter rolls and limiting of polling places and aging voting machines.

So, what can We the People do? Let’s discuss the possibilities and your experiences in the comments. Here are some of what I’ve come across:

The People’s Union: A 24-Hour Economic Blackout

The People’s Union is promoting a 24-hour economic blackout on 28 February in which we buy nothing or at least nothing from the big national corporations and restrict any spending to local independent businesses. Their FAQ is full of dates and things not to purchase or companies not to purchase from. Newsweek has a repot on the organization and their plans.

I know I won’t be purchasing nothing from no global conglomerates, corporations, or chains. Note even no Starbucks. Of course, I cheat just a little by living in Cambodia.

The White Pages’ 31 Things YOU Can Do Today!

The White Pages has a post about 31 things people can do today. Thanks Tengrain (Activism PSA at Mock Paper Scissors)It’s an interesting list with something are sure to appeal to everyone, and something that everyone can quibble with over effectiveness, doability, and other nitpicky details that the left loves to engage in to keep ourselves from actually doing anything.

One of my favorites is the lonely sign vigil. Become one of THOSE PEOPLE you see standing along a stretch of highway holding up a handmade sign. Haven’t you ever wondered about them? You could become the next Greta Thunberg!

Another good one is GO TO SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS! That’s how the wack-a-doodle right put Critical Race Theory on the school board agenda, targeted DEI, and started banning books and firing teachers. I might add, we could attend city council meetings or whatever the equivalent is in your county.

Join Indivisible and Move On

Two of the most successful political groups in our country’s history are Indivisible and Move On. Both of them have active chapters in cities, towns, and counties all over the country. Find on near you, and start going to their meetings. They also organize and coordinate local events and are very effective at what they do. You can become part of their success.

There’s lots of other groups to join, too. The Poor People’s Campaign and Democrats Abroad are two of my favorites. Let us know yours in the comments.

Contact Your Government Officials

Call your members of Congress. Be specific about an issue. Oppose Kash Patel’s nomination to FBI, for example. It doesn’t matter if they are Republican or Democrat, they need to hear from you. It is how you participate and make your voice heard between elections.

But, there is so much more you can do. Visit your members of Congress’ offices, especially when they’re there. Bring friends, a crowd. Video it and post it social media. Alert the local media and see yourself on the TV! This is something that Indivisible, Move On, and The Poor People’s Campaign all excel at and need your help with.

It doesn’t stop there, though. Your state and local government officials need to hear from you, too. Pick a pet issue, figure out which office is in charge of it, and start making some noise.

Reach Out to Like-Minded Individuals

Start building a network of like-minded individuals. Encourage each other using text and email chains. Organize small events like calling your MoC or other government officials, sending postcards to specific offices, organizing fundraisers for causes and organizations.

It will take all of us doing big and small things to turn this shipwreck of state around and get it flying in the right direction. Let us know what you think we can do and what you’ve done in the comments!
