Update:
Something is happening in Congress about Greenland. Apparently, blowing up NATO has even gotten some of the Republican member’s attention. You may have heard of a Congressional junket — that’s an old term, isn’t it? — to Greenland to meet with Danish and Greenlandic government ministers led by Senator Chris Coons (D Delaware), of course, but Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-Sometimes Representing Constituents) and Senator Tom Tillis (R-I’m Not Running Again, Bitches!). Also, there were Republicans meeting with the Danish and Greenlandic Foreign Ministers who were in Washington DC. And, Trump has announced retaliatory tariffs against European countries that are supporting Denmark and Greenland.
Several Republicans, including the retiring Mitch McConnell, saying on the floor of their respective chambers that it might could be not such a good idea to attack another NATO country and irrevocably harm NATO. So, think about it. But, they have stopped short of actually rebuking Trump and telling him no.
Several measures are before Congress. Now is the time to contact your Members of Congress to express support for NATO and these limits of Trump’s military authority.
Greenland Background
Trump is completely out of control right now. In a recent interview with the New York Times he made the following alarming statements:
- “I don’t need international law.”
- Only his own morality and mind can stop him from doing…. things? What he wants?
- “Ownership [of Greenland] is very important Because that’s what I feel is psychologically needed for success. I think that ownership gives you a thing that you can’t do with, you’re talking about a lease or a treaty. Ownership gives you things and elements that you can’t get from just signing a document.”
He also told oil executives on Friday 9 January, “We are going to do something on Greenland, whether they like it or not.” He went on to say that he “would like to make a deal, you know, the easy way. But if we don’t do it the easy way, we’re going to do it the hard way,” He seems to think that the US possessing Greenland and not simply having a greater military presence on the island or in the Arctic is the only way to counter rising military activity of Russia and China in the Arctic.
He has claimed that Russia and China will take Greenland even thought it is part of NATO and the entire organization would be obligated to defend it if either made a military move against it.
The Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen warned that a US invasion of Greenland would destroy NATO and the post-World War II security structure.
Regardless of the reasons Trump is pursuing this destructive course of action, we have to do everything we can to stop him. The only thing he’ll understand is a firm boundary and We the People are about the only boundary left.
While Trump is behaving in wildly destructive and criminal ways on a variety of fronts, and is threatening the liberal democratic world order that maintains the world as we know it, the annexation of Greenland in any capacity by any means is going to absolutely destroy it all. It is the gravest most direct threat to our nation that we face.
We absolutely have to do everything we can to stop him from burning NATO, the UN, and the post we II security structure down.
Since the Senate passed a resolution to prevent Trump from taking military action in Venezuela and the House passed an extension of the ACA subsidies, gives us some hope that Congress may try to defend our national interest and put a stop to this madness. Maybe. It’d worth a try.
Follow these steps:
Influence Your Member of Congress
See our one size fits all guide to influencing Congress, other elected officials, and any government officials. It has everything you need to know including all of the links to find their contact information, ideas on what else to do other than call, what to do if you get voicemail or its full, and how best to craft your message. Otherwise, follow these steps:
Prepare for Contact
When you call a Congressional person’s office, they’re likely to have an intern answering the phone to take a message. It’s not like your senator or representative is sitting there waiting for your call. Or, they’re likely to follow the strategy of leaving it on voicemail to discourage you. There are two things that make contacting your members of Congress either better or more sure of success:
Have a Script
Know what you want to say ahead of time. It helps you hit all the points you want to make, be polite, stay on message, be efficient, and are ready for voicemail.
Here’s a model to use or follow:
Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [STATE and LOCALITY].
I’m calling today to urge you to stand up to Trump over his threats to annex Greenland. Such a move would destroy NATO and the post-WW III security structure that we’ve built to keep us all safe.
Trump will not stop unless we stop him. You must work with Congress to put a War Powers Resolution in place limiting his ability to annex Greenland.
Thank you for your time and attention.
IF LEAVING A VOICEMAIL: please leave your full street address to ensure your call is tallied.
Call as a Group
You have to call during business hours, so make it a day drinking game! Pass the phone and the shots around a group of friends, family, acquaintances, and strangers snagged off the street!
Seriously, you’re more likely to do a thing if you’ve (a) made a plan with date, time, and method established and (b) have a buddy or group doing it with you. So, get yourself organized and have some fun with it!

Howdy Chuq!
Every time I put one of these “call your MoC” posts up, it gets a modest number of views. It does generate interest. And, it gets some pushback of the “it won’t do any good” variety,” especially on my social media pages. People do underestimate how much good it does to contact your MoC and express your opinion even if they are decidedly against the issue.

Hopefully, we’re seeing a ground swell of it is time for Trump to go, and a chorus of impeach and convict will reach Republican ears.

Howdy Bob!
I’ve seen more references to Five Calls recently on my social media feeds. It is heartening to see it until you realize how much such efforts dropped off during Biden’s term.
I think there is a hierarchy of issues that you want to influence your MoC about, though. Top of the list has to be Greenland because it is such a direct threat to the current world order that has kept the whole world safe for the past eighty years. Without it, people like Putin and Xi would be more aggressive than they have been.
Then it is impeaching Trump and his cabinet. I know it won’t happen, but I think it is important to develop the appetite for it and to let Congress know how popular it is.
The ACA subsidies, reining in ICE, and releasing the Epstein files have got to come next. Congress already has an inkling of how important these are to so many people in the public, but pressure has to be maintained.
Just in constructing this list you can see how effective Trump’s strategy of delay and distract has been in dealing with the Epstein files. We really have pushed them off of the front burner and confused the picture by diffusing the focus of the public. We now have three or four things to be outraged, scared of, and worried about instead of just Epstein.

That is, I think, why the word, impeach, has to get mentioned more and more often. Ideas become more accepted through repetition. It has to become the thing blowing in the wind, the thing it seems everybody is talking about.

The other thing that emphasizes the impeachable nature of Trump’s offenses is that it keeps his corruption from being normalized. One of Trump’s abilities is to normalize his aberrant behavior. We have to push back against that.
