Meme: Opiate of the Masses


Given that there is a very real very deadly very destructive opiate addiction epidemic going on in this country, I hope that this update on Marx’s old line, Religion is the opiate of the masses, and Edward R. Murrow’s Television may be the opiate of the people, isn’t too offensive.

Given that one of most intoxicating effects of social media is that it gives you a sense of accomplishment when you’ve actually done very little, especially if one is trolling, it may inhibit assertive positive behaviors.
