SCIENTISTS FIND LINK BETWEEN ADHD, DEPRESSION AND HYPERSEXUALITY
I guess there had to be some kind of payoff for mental health disorders, right? Who knew it would be self medicating with fornicating?
Italian — jeez, in our day and age, we can’t even make the obvious joke, amirite? — researchers found a correlation between four fairly common mental health issues:
- ADHD: While it is most often thought of as a disorder of children, it often lasts into adulthood. It involves having difficulty with extended attention, impulse control, and being constantly moving or talking. Moving is moving, knowhatimean?
- DYSTHYMIA: I took some liberties here and changed their depressive symptoms to dysthymia which is a long-lasting low-level depression. The world is a grey meaningless blob. It involves most of the depression symptoms only not as “bad,” if you will. If you feel bad most of the time, you might could just try cheering yourself up with a little self pleasure.
- HYPOMANIA: If dysthymia is a shallower depression, hypomania is a lower mania. You still have noticeably elevated energy, activity, and emotions, but just not as bad as mania. It was already known that mania was associated with increased sexual expression, so no surprise here.
- HYPERSEXUALITY: All right, settle down, hypersexuality refers to excessive thoughts, desires, and behaviors relating to sex. It isn’t necessarily doing the full nasty. In fact, your average incel could be considered hypersexual. Hell, this whole study could have had incels as their participants.
These guys found that when people with ADHD reported that they had MORE sexual thoughts when they were either in hypomanic or depressive states. Hunh. I think what they’re saying is that when you’re depressed or hyper, you have a lot of sex fantasies. And, if you start out with poor impulse control and increased distractibility, well, it’s always spring and your thoughts are always turning to…

CONTROVERSIAL NEW RESEARCH FIND THAT BISEXUALS ARE A BUNCH OF RASCALS
You’re thinking that bi folks are getting more, aren’t ya? Well, as it turns out, that just might could be the fact of the matter. In a fairly complex way, a couple of evolutionary geneticists looked at the genetics of people claiming to be bisexual and compared them to the behaviors of people claiming to be gay or lesbian.
Let’s all keep in mind that genetics isn’t destiny. We’re still hella complex so everything doesn’t boil down to nature vs nurture.
That said they found similarities in the genetic profiles of bisexual and gay and lesbian people. The variation that correlated with bisexual men (not women), though, was a penchant for risk-taking behavior. It shouldn’t surprise you that it also correlated with reproduction. Hunh. Go figure.

SCIENTISTS FIND THAT GETTING NAUGHTY HELPS PROTECT AGAINST COGNITIVE DECLINE
Now, there’s a pick up line, right?
In this study of over 1500 individuals aged 62 and older and having a sexual partner in their lives, they found that the folks who were getting them some every week had better cognitive functioning than those who were having longer periods between their sexual liaisons. The difference was most striking with those folks who hadn’t gotten any in the past year.
Now, here’s the real kicker. When you hunt through the crosstabs, you find that those folks 62 – 75 who were SATISFIED with their sex lives had enjoyed the benefits of cognitive protections, while those who weren’t as satisfied, didn’t. The participants who were over 75 were just glad to be doing sumpthin, I reckon, and that was enough to keep ’em sharp.

Biden, 81, says the key to his marriage is ‘good sex’: How Joe infuriates Jill, his wife of 47 years, with VERY risqué joke to staff about their private life (even though they aren’t shy about PDA)
Maybe Ol’ Handsome Joe has more cognitive protection than any of us knew.
While we’ve all seen the way that they look at each other — and don’t we all need someone in our lives that looks at us the way Joe and Jill Biden look at each other — and the little PDA that they got going on, the kisses, hand holding, and arms around each other. According to Joe, it’s all real. He reportedly has said that good sex is the key to a successful marriage.
We’ve all seen the horrific kisses and physical interactions between DeSantis and his wife in his brief stint on the national campaign trail. We all saw Melania swat Trump’s hand away from her when he was outside of the bounds of the pre-nup.
And, you know, Trump has been married how many times and is in what kind of cognitive decline? Maybe it is time to start believing what we’re seeing and hearing.

So, on one side of the stage we see a relationship thriving on real love, desire, and respect. On the other side, we see a history of and a current relationship based on abuse, infidelity, and domination, and bragging about a prowess perhaps long past. Science is telling us one is a better cognitive bet than the other, confirming what we’ve already noticed.
Maybe those same scientists would like to also consider the correlations with personality disorders.

Humanism and compassion have always been Biden’s strong suites. Like Clinton, he can connect with individuals on an empathetic emotional level so easily. In all of the noise and crossfire of presidential campaigns and ubiquitous disinformation, the relationship between Joe and Jill will be clear and a strength for him.
On the other hand, the absence of any relationship between Trump and Melania will be clear. It won’t matter to MAGA, but it will to those who are uncommitted, which leads me to another Comment on This post idea: the real threat isn’t Trump, but the gerrymandered districts and the courts, especially, the Supremes who just delayed their decision on whether he has immunity.
On another line, McConnell’s resignation from minority leader may be more health related than anything else. I’ve been suspicious of his health for over a year now. To me, this is just more evidence of his physical decline.

McConnell has been looking tired for quite a while. His replacement is likely to be both ideologically worse and far less skilled. The GOP side of the isle in the Senate will look even more like their side in the House.
Joe does very well when he gets out in small, “retail politics” settings. I will help defuse the worries about his age because he looks healthy, vigorous, and sharp as well as caring and friendly.

No body as craven as McConnell steps down unless he has to. He will be best remember as the person most responsible for the ongoing threat to our democracy. He destroyed the Senate as a functional body, corrupted the judiciary, and refused to take Trump off of the political stage on multiple occasions.
Interesting to note that both McConnell and Biden are about the same age, yet Biden is still going strong. My brain tells me that the election will turn around for the Biden and the Democrats, but my heart still quavers with the fear that it won’t.

McConnell did put party before country better that nearly anyone other than maybe Newt Gingrich.

We didn’t heed Barry Goldwater’s prescient observation that if the evangelicals ever got the reigns of the GOP, our democracy was over.
“Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they’re sure trying to do so, it’s going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can’t and won’t compromise. I know, I’ve tried to deal with them.”
And, we as a country welcomed Reagan and the Moral Majority set us on the slide we’re on.

No, we didn’t heed, but after the way Barry and the GOP ran his presidential campaign it isn’t so surprising. And, that was a reflection of the influence the John Birch Society already had in the party.

That was something that I always found confusing. The evangelicals were a bridge too far for Goldwater, but I never saw their fanaticism and penchant for authoritarianism as being too very different. After his campaign, it seems to me that Goldwater was associated with the lunatic fringe that eventually took over the GOP.
