Recently Trump posted some remarks about being an absolute ruler:
- CONGESTION PRICING IS DEAD. Manhattan, and all of New York, is SAVED. LONG LIVE THE KING!
- HE WHO SAVES THE COUNTRY DOES NOT VIOLATE THE LAW.

On my social media, I’ve seen a lot of discussion about how much coverage the for-profit, alternative, and social media should be giving these comments. Some people think we should be screaming from the rooftops, some that we should ignore it as distractions from the destruction, grifting, and looting that the administration has undertaken.
Who knows what the right answer is for any given incident that Trump pulls out of his flabby hairless white ass?
The real question is what can we as individuals be doing to help stop this madness? As Joyce Vance says in her Civil Discourse substack, column, The Courts Aren’t The Calvary, We Are. Her idea is that we the voters will be the ultimate check on Trump’s reign of idiot oligarchs. But, I don’t think we can rely on the 2026 midterms as our savior from this madness. First, there’s way too much damage that they’re doing way too quickly for a course correction in two years to actually save us. This is no where more clear than in fight against climate change, the economic chaos they are unleashing, and their response to the war in Ukraine.
And, second, 2026 is not likely to be anything close to a free and fair election given the dismantling of the FBI and CIA, which were our most powerful weapons against foreign disinformation campaigns. The flood of foreign money that they’ve welcomed into the inauguration committee fund, purchase of the $Trump bitcoin thingy, and super pacs. The state laws that rigged the vote in 2024 will only get worse as will the purging of voter rolls and limiting of polling places and aging voting machines.
So, what can We the People do? Let’s discuss the possibilities and your experiences in the comments. Here are some of what I’ve come across:
The People’s Union: A 24-Hour Economic Blackout
The People’s Union is promoting a 24-hour economic blackout on 28 February in which we buy nothing or at least nothing from the big national corporations and restrict any spending to local independent businesses. Their FAQ is full of dates and things not to purchase or companies not to purchase from. Newsweek has a repot on the organization and their plans.
I know I won’t be purchasing nothing from no global conglomerates, corporations, or chains. Note even no Starbucks. Of course, I cheat just a little by living in Cambodia.
The White Pages’ 31 Things YOU Can Do Today!
The White Pages‘ has a post about 31 things people can do today. Thanks Tengrain (Activism PSA at Mock Paper Scissors)It’s an interesting list with something are sure to appeal to everyone, and something that everyone can quibble with over effectiveness, doability, and other nitpicky details that the left loves to engage in to keep ourselves from actually doing anything.
One of my favorites is the lonely sign vigil. Become one of THOSE PEOPLE you see standing along a stretch of highway holding up a handmade sign. Haven’t you ever wondered about them? You could become the next Greta Thunberg!
Another good one is GO TO SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS! That’s how the wack-a-doodle right put Critical Race Theory on the school board agenda, targeted DEI, and started banning books and firing teachers. I might add, we could attend city council meetings or whatever the equivalent is in your county.
Join Indivisible and Move On
Two of the most successful political groups in our country’s history are Indivisible and Move On. Both of them have active chapters in cities, towns, and counties all over the country. Find on near you, and start going to their meetings. They also organize and coordinate local events and are very effective at what they do. You can become part of their success.
There’s lots of other groups to join, too. The Poor People’s Campaign and Democrats Abroad are two of my favorites. Let us know yours in the comments.
Contact Your Government Officials
Call your members of Congress. Be specific about an issue. Oppose Kash Patel’s nomination to FBI, for example. It doesn’t matter if they are Republican or Democrat, they need to hear from you. It is how you participate and make your voice heard between elections.
But, there is so much more you can do. Visit your members of Congress’ offices, especially when they’re there. Bring friends, a crowd. Video it and post it social media. Alert the local media and see yourself on the TV! This is something that Indivisible, Move On, and The Poor People’s Campaign all excel at and need your help with.
It doesn’t stop there, though. Your state and local government officials need to hear from you, too. Pick a pet issue, figure out which office is in charge of it, and start making some noise.
Reach Out to Like-Minded Individuals
Start building a network of like-minded individuals. Encourage each other using text and email chains. Organize small events like calling your MoC or other government officials, sending postcards to specific offices, organizing fundraisers for causes and organizations.
It will take all of us doing big and small things to turn this shipwreck of state around and get it flying in the right direction. Let us know what you think we can do and what you’ve done in the comments!

I wonder, has Donald actually gone from his ambition to be a Fascist Dictator all the way to Monarchy? If so, will he name one of his offspring as Crown Prince (Sorry Ivanka, you know how he regards women.)?
I’m seeing the “King thing” as a further sign of narcissistic collapse. He has so many people and institutions saying “NO!” to him now; the Arabs about his Gaza fantasy, Denmark and the Greenlanders, Canada, Panama, Zelenskyy and the Europeans about his “negotiations” with Putin, New York about the mayor and the congestion pricing, and numerous judges. Calling himself “King” and posting that silly picture would make him feel better and help him stay in denial of the ambitions at which he is in the process of failing.

Does he know the difference between a king and fascist dictator? Does he think that he will ever die? Does he even worry about what will come after him? He’s so deep into his narcissistic fantasies now that any, all, and a few surprising others are entirely possible.
That the world isn’t rolling over for him, especially the Republican Congress, even though they haven’t dealt him many meaningful set backs, is probably chaffing and keeping the wound open. I guess the telltale sign will be whether he completely implodes when our economy does because he’s fantasized about leading us into a “golden age” or whether he dances upon the grave of the US singing “Hallelujah.”
Right now, I think he’s just celebrating the chaos, destruction, and broken lives that are being accomplished in his name. One of the saddest things about him is that he is far more of a prominent audience member than he is leader or even instigator. I still can’t get over him being the most powerful person in the world and he couldn’t get himself from the WH to the Capitol on 21 January to lead his own coup. Unfortunately, those who wanted to use him to wreck everything learned from that.

Yes, they did learn, alas. And, he probably does not know or care about the difference between Dictator and king. He uses the word image that pleases him at the moment. But, the occasion for the king remark was such a puny excuse for a victory (which may yet turn out to be illusory) that it speak volumes about the headwinds he’s encountering.
I wonder whether the Secret Service agents who stopped him from going to the Capital on J6 realize the difference they made. Ans, yes, he much more of an instigator and spectator than a leader in the front lines. It fits with his mob boss tactics of suggesting that certain things should happen to certain people without actually giving the order. That is how he gets compliance in advance.
He probably won’t dance on the grave. Instead, he will be muttering, “Serves those loosers right for letting me down.”

No one has to do what he says, even as president, as the secret service agents demonstrated during the 6 January Insurrection. That’s what gets me. Trump is a coward and has no real power other than that of command. No one has to follow them. So, they do because they want to. They agree with his authoritarian ways. It really is one of the most troubling aspects of the times we live in.
Right now, Trump is being consumed by his narcissistic delusion of perfection and power. He sees no limit to his ability to implement is every word even with his court set backs. Luckily, most Americans — according to polls, at least — think that he is overreaching. Whether that results in anything meaningful is yet to be seen.

“Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.” Therein is the wisdom ignored by the narcissist. And it isn’t about some mystical Karma or divine judgement, but the inevitable consequences of overreach and unforced errors. Well, a 700 point fall the Dow is a warning of worse to come, and the money people behind T ( not the ultra billionaires, but the lesser rich people) don’t like watching their investments deflating. A farmer’s organization in WI had a meeting and their GOP Reps didn’t show up. And there is more of that sort of thing happening. Will we land a fatal blow on the oligarchy? Probably not, but a death by a thousand cuts will do.

What did someone say about Pearl Harbor, we have awakened a sleeping giant? Perhaps the long somnambulant disinterested voter and the self-interested MAGA voter have been disturbed enough to begin to act. A little late, but late is better than never. Two years is a long time to wait, but during the Great Depression, the American people waited almost four to change presidents.
Europe also seems to have been moved to act, including the German electorate turning back the AfD. We’ll see how things turn out, but right now, we still have a bull rampaging through the China shop.

The sleeping giant quote is from Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, who commanded the attack. He said it after learning that the American aircraft carriers were not in port at Pearl the day of the attack. He had also spent enough time in the US to know it’s scale and resources better than most of the war hawks in Japan.
Trump is being so over the top and open about his betrayal of Ukraine and worship of Putin even very conservative Europeans have had to take the threat seriously. After all, somebody like Victor Orban wants to be all powerful in his country, not take orders from Moscow.
GOP MOCs are encountering angry MAGA voters in their deep red districts at town halls. A lot of that is more focused on the disaster which is Musk and Doge than on Trump himself, but they are being very pointedly reminded that it is Congress that is supposed to control the spending, not some delusional foreigner billionaire.
Meanwhile, Musk is starting to piss off some of the newly appointed department heads who took the jobs with the illusion that they would actually be in charge. It is never a good idea to make enemies of fellow members of a conspiracy.
Trump desperately wants (and has for a long time) Putin to regard him as an equal. Putin is quite skilled at pretending that he does that.

Apparently, Trump Firehose of Falsehooded Putin when he announced that not only had he discussed European peacekeepers being used in Ukraine, but that Putin approved of it! Sometimes you gotta watch out for what you wish for incase you get it. I guess it doesn’t matter because the FoF says that contradiction and departure from reality don’t matter as much as just keep pumping out information as fast as you can. Perhaps that’s what Musk is using the what I did last week emails to train his AI for, AI generated BS for the useful idiots to read.
They’ve just passed the House budget, which pretty much means it will be signed into law. The Senate will make some noise about it, but in the end, they fold. We’re guaranteed a cratered economy and recession. Given the destruction already done to the government — we need those government functions to keep the country running smoothly, including the economy — it guarantees a depression.
The courts are having a decidedly split decision with Musk and his chainsaw. Some of what he’s done has been left standing, some has been blocked pending further hearing.
I don’t know that we can piss off enough people fast enough to actually avoid the major disaster that Trump is steering us towards. We might could mitigate some of the worst outcomes, but we are in for a very bad time in the mid-range future.
Putin knows exactly how to play Trump. It is why there never needed to be any collusion or kompromat. Putin recognized Trump as the perfect engine for his destruction of the US from the first moment he came across him.

It seems like you’re either preaching to the choir or to the willfully deaf and dumb, and I don’t mean mute. I think we’re all going to be bit in the ass by reality, as Obama predicted so many years ago now.
