FESTIVUS!
You’re going to be busy this weekend! You’ve got to get your decorations up and decisions to make! Will you have a Seinfeld inspired Festivus or a traditional O’Keefe Festivus? Or, will you forge your own path with your own family Festivus traditions?
Festivus Decorations:
- The aluminum Festivus poll because tinsel is distracting for the Seinfeld-inspired Festivus!
- The clock in a ziplock bag nailed to the wall, the original O’Keefe family Festivus decoration!
- Include your Festivus decorations in the comments regardless of the way you go!
Festivus Dinner:
- Will you have a Seinfeldesque meatloaf on a bed of lettuce?
- An O’Keefe family dinner of turkey, ham, beef stew or lamb chops with pecan pie as dessert?
- Will you have foods more traditional to your family? Let us know in the comments because we all want to know.
Festivus Traditions:
- Are you ready for the Airing of Grievances? It’s been a grievious year. There’s lots of grievance to go around. It is time limited, though, so be ready. It’s like the best man’s toast, you’ve got to plan it out. Also, too, know your audience. Kidding can help a group bond, but there is a line where it becomes hurtful. Know who can tolerate what. Or, just complain about the year in general. It has been a helluva year.
- The Feats of Strengths are going to be different this year. We’re Zooming it, right? So, what are you going to do? Maybe a polar bear swim? Maybe the chair lifting challenge or a relay race?
- The Declaration of Festivus Miracles is tricky. They have to be occurrences that no one wanted to have happen but are a fascinating coincident that someone made happen. In Seinfeld, Kramer invited the bookies that Elaine was trying to use to get her free sandwich but not being very nice to and let Jerry’s girlfriend know where he’d be even though he was avoiding her.
Festivus Links:
- Festivus kit: It is a box set of various Festivus related things like a 9-inch Festivus pole that plays four Frank Constanza quotes in Jerry Stiller’s voice, five Human Fund donation cards, and two magnets! Fun!
- Festivus Web Site: These folks have been doing Festivus for so long that they’ve published their own book! They explain all of the Festivus traditions and decorations that have been developed both by the O’Keefe family and Seinfeld.
- The Festivus Blog: A blog by the website folks who are documenting various Festivus things they’ve come across this year.
Festivus Cards:
We’ve developed several cards to celebrate Festivus with this year. Be sure to download them and email them to friends and family before the big day! (Image attribution is numbered after the display of cards.)

I’ve always loved Festivus. Not many people do, though. You’ll find people who do something in the name of Festivus, though.

I wasn’t aware of it, not being a Seinfeld back in the day and not doing TV for about ten years.

Howdy Bob!
I wasn’t a Seinfeld fan until the show was available on pirated DVD’s in South Korea. The same with Friends. During the ’80’s and ’90’s. I had completely checked out of pop culture. From other shows I’ve seen in syndication, we weren’t missing much.
Huzzah!

I gave up on sit-coms when I didn’t have partners or roommates who insisted on watching them. The last ones i really liked were Soap and Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman. Somehow, I just missed Twin Peaks.
